John Drew Munro - Brightness Falls from the Air: Encaustic paintings at the GESU

The title was appropriated from James Joyce’s novel “Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man”. John Drew Munro is a Montreal-based painter working primarily in encaustic and oil whose work can best be described as pattern-based abstraction. He has a BFA from Concordia University (89) and has been painting for 20 years with exhibitions in Canada, the US and Europe – including Galerie McClure, Montreal, Galerie Sandra Goldie, Marist College, Poughkeepsie, NY; Evanston Art Center, Chicago; Grand Palais, Paris. -Tuesday to Saturday - 12 a.m to 6 p.m

Specializing in complex scenes of Quebec rural culture, Dandurand depicts a world of country chores, antique implements and lost innocence in his painted monoblock carvings.

The Phantom of the Opera - ATLANTIC BALLET-THEATRE OF CANADA

An original interpretation inspired by Gaston Leroux’s 1910 novel of the same name. The Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada’s production of Phantom of the Opera evokes timeless themes and images of outcasts, love, and lonliness. An exile, rejected by the only world he knows, the phantom is a romantic figure, a sensitive soul who has given his life to his music. Driven by a hopeless love, he lurks in the in the shadows in a world of his own creation.

Transition - an exhibition of paintings & sculptures by Les Artistes de Mont-Tremblant

“Transitions” offers the public a view of diverse and interesting artwork made especially for this theme exhibition, by eight of the collective.
The sculptors, Luis Paniagua and Bruno Dufour, work in wood, stone, metal and clay. Both are seasoned sculptors with commissioned pieces in the Tremblant area. The painters, Margo Chick, Holly Friesen, Joanna Nash, Dominique Normand, Michel Normandeau and Ann Thibaudeau, will be exhibiting an exciting variety of subjects, in media ranging from graphite drawings, watercolour to mixed media works including printing, painting and collage techniques.

Utopia Suite Disco - by Clive Holden

Clive Holden is a multi-disciplinary artist and author who works with moving images in three forms: fixed films and videos, performance, and installation. Utopia Suite Disco is about dancing to the beat of our hopes and fears to create movement as both figurative and literal progress towards Utopianism. A light tent is filled with projections of utopian heroes such as JFK, Martin Luther King, John Lennon and James Joyce. A dance floor is provided for the viewer to dance to a three-part disco suite by composer Oscar Van Dillen, a Rotterdam-based composer.

We Can Act Cabaret

The "We Can Act" social theatre and cabaret project by Laura teasdale and Doug Hooper, developed to entertain while promoting Public Health programs and services, is produced in the Townships. Townshippers' Association is collaborating with local CSSS's, the CHSSN, Health Canada, Sunshine Theatre Productions, the Courville Foundation and Santé Courville to create awareness of these local services for rural communities in an entertaining and informal manner. Performed in schools and community centres in Granby, Knowlton, Bedford, and Cowansville at 7 pm. Waterloo and Sutton at 2 p.m.

Zarathustra Said Some Things, No?

Adrienne and Ricky have made a suicide pact that they have, so far, failed to complete. They make one last attempt. As the story unfolds, their relationship becomes more unsettling and the games they play become increasingly disturbing.
Playwright Trevor Ferguson paints a painful vision of a lost generation in this intense examination of addiction and abuse. The production received extraordinary reviews in New York City in 2006 and is now ready for its Canadian première, traveling next to Toronto’s Factory Theatre.
Directed by Guy Sprung. Starring Lina Roessler, Brett Watson. Evening performances 8pm. Sunday matinées 2pm.
