Every year, the Gallery organizes an exhibition on themes and issues of regional relevance. This year’s Carte Blanche exhibition will present a new site specific installation inspired by Bishop’s University’s natural landscape by prominent Québec artist Sylvie Bouchard.

Sylvie Bouchard is an artist living and working in Montreal. Since the early 1980s, Bouchard has established herself as a dynamic contemporary and has exhibited extensively throughout Quebec and Canada.

Alexandra and the Herrings are launching their first CD "Lucky No.7" Saturday May 31 at the Playhouse, 5656 Ave. du Parc. 8:30 p.m. This electro-pop group are the pioneers of www music : weird, whimsical, wacky. They are the brainchild of Alexandra Delgado an award winning singer/songwriter : honor awards at the Billboard World Song Contest and at the Great American Song Contest. Alexandra aka Queen Herring will sing at the piano accompanied by her Herrrings-in-waiting Myrrhine Faller and Iris Godbout. Ferment at Long Hall
The Long Hall / Le Corrid'art: 450 Beaumont ave. Park Extension (bus #80 north or metro Parc)

The Long Hall / Le Corrid'art presents its 7th Annual Thematic group show. This year's theme is "Ferment". 28 visual artists working out of the Long Hall studios respond to this active, textured, and visceral word through painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, performance, video, plant art, and installation. Beer, wine, vodka, saurkraut, and all things fermented will be served!

Vernissage, Friday May 23rd, 2008 from 7:00pm to midnight. special guest dj's for your listening ears and dancing shoes.

Parkdale Gallery Exhibition: The Barbie Show

The Barbie Show explores iconic Barbie. On a light and humorous note there is a series of famous paintings with Barbie doll heads. Less comforting abstract works based on the Barbie body types ask what our social messages are to young girls in terms of body image. The third part of the show uses Barbie as a metaphor for a plastic and shallow society.

Single Dwelling Monologues

Single Dwelling Monologues is a performance / installation incorporating live and pre-recorded video. It was conceived as observational theatre and was ‘written’ as non-fiction fiction. It imagines what it is we do, who it is we are when alone and when in a state of aloneness. Alone because we sometimes are, will be, have been, could be, am, is…

Performers include Marc Gagnon, Jackie Gallant, Pierre Gauvin, Mayi-Eder Inchauspé, Marie-Christine Lavallée, Stephen Lawson, Heather Mah, Nathalie Mamias, Vincent Morelle, Jean-Denis Olharan, Isaac Savoie, Michael Toppings, Gary Varro, Sarah Williams.

This year’s Carte Blanche exhibition will present a new site specific installation, Trois coups sous les arbres, inspired by the university’s natural landscape by prominent Québec artist SYLVIE BOUCHARD.

Sylvie Bouchard has exhibited extensively since the early 1980s in both Canada and internationally. She soon became known for her creation of undefined spaces, her use of a fragmented narration and the dreamlike atmosphere that emanates from her work.
