Ensemble, by Leigh Davis
La Centrale Galerie Powerhouse 4296 Saint Laurent, Montreal, Quebec

Ensemble II
October 13/14 7:30 pm - 4 am
Opening reception October 13 from 7-9 pm

After presenting this filmic work as an installation for Saint Joseph's Oratory in September, Leigh Davis will present a window projection at La Centrale Galerie Powerhouse.

In this operatic short film, architecture acts as an introduction, leading viewers into a contrasted and stylized performance of the American pop score Man in the Mirror. Through gesture and voice, grouped or isolated into view, the choir sends out a message, inviting viewers to see, read, and thus experience how this score relates to contemporary life, and more importantly to themselves.

Surtaal in concert
Spa ZaZen, 209 St.Paul West Montréal, Qc

Surtaal - pitch and rhythm - the two elements that form the foundation of all music. Together, Nicholas Williams on bansuri (student of Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia) and Shawn Mativetsky on tabla (disciple of Pt. Sharda Sahai) weave a rich tapestry of sound, improvised according to the ancient musical traditions of Northern India. Each brings to the mix his own world of musical influences, sonorities, and intuition, taking the listener on an emotional journey through sound.

This will be a unique opportunity to hear Indian classical music unamplified, in a beautiful acoustic setting.

The Anatomy Lesson by Marijs Boulogne (Belgium)
372 Ste-Catherine West, #303

The Anatomy Lesson is part of a cylcus about motherly love, death and ritual, combining several of Marijs’s passions: forensic medicine, video and working with threads through embroidery and crochet. For nine months Marijs, with much love and imagination, great dexterity and medical knowledge, crocheted and embroidered an anatomically correct dead baby around a hand-made skeletal structure. Forensic surgeons to whom she showed her child were astonished by the scientific accuracy of her detail. In 2006, these excavations became a single multimedia performance involving an endoscopy.
