Galerie McKenzie Marcotte in Wakefield presents "Direct/Indirect Configurations", an exhibition of paintings by Chelsea's Pamela Cockcroft-Lasserre and Holly Tingley from Montreal.

Both artists are accomplished painters who portray the human figure yet their methods and intent are very different. The title of the exhibition, "Direct/Indirect Configurations", refers to the fact that Pamela paints directly from models while Holly prefers to work from images.

The Foreman Art Gallery of Bishop’s University presents Jennifer Angus in the exhibition “Agents of Nature”. In Angus’ wall installations, beautiful camouflaged patterns of petrified creepy crawlies will inhabit the gallery walls. The exhibition will take place from September 13th to November 11th. You are cordially invited to the Vernissage on September 13th, whereby the artist will give a talk at 4:00.

First Anniversary Exposition

Editions Mouton Rose Galerie d'Art du Quebec in Ormstown celebrates its first anniversary with an exhibition featuring south-western Quebec's regional artists. Showcasing works by Alyson Champ, Diane St-Georges, Mary Hood, Suzanne Olivier and Francois Belpaire, the program will provide a closed parenthesis to the gallery's first year theme, "Artists of Every Stripe".

This last regular program in the gallery's 2007 season brings the number of emerging and mid-career artists from across Quebec to 19, who have exhibited in the gallery's monthly shows.

The program of oils, acryllics, ink and watercolours is open to the public Thursdays through Sundays.

Little Katrina is inspired by Frank Wedekind’s Spring Awakening.

A fantasia on graduating high-school students in the Deep South of the United States, Little Katrina explores themes of sexual repression and religion, all taking place in the summer of Hurricane Katrina on the Gulf of Mexico.

Chelsea artist Reid McLachlan opens his show of new paintings entitled Grey Truths at Art-Image in Gatineau on November 9 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
McLachlan asks the question what is truth? The answers he finds in this world gone mad are not at all clear or definitive, but they are the artist’s own intimate and personal grey truths.

At the opening reception there will be a contemporary dance performance of an excerpt of Ludivine, choreographed by Anik Bouvrette and modified to complement McLachlan’s paintings and the gallery space.

Black Theatre Workshop, in collaboration with Playwrights' Workshop Montreal and Mainline Theatre, presents a staged reading of Cheryl Foggo's groundbreaking play, Heaven, Monday, November 12 at 7:30pm.

Set in 1927, 22 years following the arrival of the first black pioneers in Amber Valley, Alberta, Heaven tells the story of Charlotte, a descendant of Ontario’s Underground Railroad community, who arrives in Amber Valley to take over a vacant teaching post. Her shameful secret leaves her an outsider in a community bound together by ties of marriage, long-standing friendships and common struggles, and triggers mayhem for its inhabitants.

Quebec Art and Folk Art for Holiday Gift Giving

Editions Mouton Rose Galerie d'Art du Quebec in Ormstown will finish the 2007 season with a unique gallery show and sale featuring the work of Quebec artists, sculptors,craftsmen and handicrafters. The "Holiday Show" is the perfect gift for both the gift giver and recipient, where you will find gifts that are truly one-of-a-kind.

The show, which runs from Nov.17 until Dec.30, is open from Thursday through Saturday 10h - 17h and Sundays from noon until 17h.

Relief and screen prints shown with some of their matrixes at a musical instrument maker’s shop. The idea was to breakdown the print process by showing the plates from which prints are made. At the same time, the matrixes or plates are beautiful objects in themselves. In context with the workshop, one sees how all comes from the ‘motherboard’.

The prints are from 3 separate series of work.

Andrew de Lotbinière Harwood and Nancy Stark Smith are internationally recognized as masters of Contact Improvisation and instantaneous composition. They will be collaborating with Mike Vargas, an extraordinary composer-musician who also excels in the art of the moment.

An all-Schubert extravaganza featuring the men of VivaVoce under the direction of Peter Schubert, astonishing soprano Marianne Fiset, two award-winning members of l’Atelier lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal, the mezzo-soprano Mireille Lebel and the bass-baritone, Chad Louwerse.

The program includes several of the repertoire’s most celebrated lieder such as: Ständchen, Die Forëlle/The Trout, Der Hirt auf dem Felsen/The Shepherd on the Rock.
