Six Cities
General 54 54 St. Viateur, West
This is my way to escape into a world that’s just like ours – but a kinder version. Why can’t you have vast orchards in the middle of a city? Why are subdivisions – fragmented and false communities – so prevalent? Why can’t you build within existing geography and historical structures? Six Cities is an observation of the places I have travelled throughout North America this past year.

"Altitude", Raymond Warren exhibition of ceramic sculpture
26 chemin Sully Wakefield Qc
Galerie McKenzie Marcotte in Wakefield Qc is pleased to present an exhibition of wood fired ceramic sculpture by Raymond Warren. The pieces, based on the theme of altitude, have in common either the experience of elevation by various means such as soaring on a swing or walking on stilts or the suggestion of altitude as the figures gaze at the skies. Ceramics produced in wood fire kilns are exciting and unpredictable and these are certainly both.

Quixote
Portuguese Association, 4170 St-Urbain, Montreal
Quixote is inspired by the life of Miguel de Cervantes and his classic work: Don Quixote. First developed as part of a workshop last January at John Abbott College, the show has been expanded to a three-week run in Montreal. Quixote is not a retelling of the Don Quixote story, but an examination of the novel, its author and the cultural phenomena that they have become. From customized masks to a wall of illuminated smoke, the innovative mise-en-scène liberates the historical Cervantes from his original context.
Shows at 8:00 PM, except Sunday and Monday. Sunday matinee at 2:00 PM.

Image of the Goddess in Nature - Paintings by Manya Saadi-nejad
Visual Voice Gallery, Belgo building, 372 St- Catherine St. West, 421
"In these paintings I have sought the inspiration of water, soil, and the colors of nature to explore the roles and experiences of women from mythological times to the present. The ancient statuette of ancient goddess, known as 'Venus', is an archetypical representation of woman's life-giving role; her Iranian analogue is Anahita, goddess of the waters in Persian's myth, also seen as a source of life. In my own life, I have known no more evocative symbol of female strength than my grandmother, who passed away in September 2007. I offer this exhibition as a tribute to her memory."

Oooo! is a touching and powerful comedy about the lives of a group of clowns in Nazi Germany. Can an artist remain apolitical in the midst of political chaos?

L'Envers: 185 Van Horne (slightly east of Ave Park)
At the convergence of music, sound, movement and contemplation comes Sacred Noise—an interdisciplinary performance evening. Journeying through the realms of electronic and organic distortion, it is white noise in resonance with a sacred alloy of healing sounds. It’s a pure filament that crosses through chaos. It’s a provocative and unconventional space for contemplation and amusement.
Sacred Noise will showcase five interdisciplinary presentations in a spectrum of movement, music, poetry and animation. The evening will take place at “L’Envers”.

Michael Sproule exhibition at Galerie McKenzie Marcotte
Galerie McKenzie Marcotte, 26 chemin Sully, Wakefield Qc J0X 3G0
Vernissage: Fri. September 19 at 7 pm
Michael Sproule has returned again and again to western Canada because in the western plains, foothills and mountains, he has found land formations whose complex geology intrigues and inspires him. In his dramatic and colourful paintings, there is evidence of cataclysmic upheavals, of erosion and of deposition. From his paintings of the surging glacial outwash areas of the western plains and Badlands to the tranquil ebb and flow of foothills country, Michael Sproule’s interest in the geological phenomena behind the changing landscape provides the underlying structure for his work.
