Retraining Grants for Dancers

The Dancer Transition Resource Centre, a membership-based organisation helping dancers make necessary transitions into different careers, offers its members a number of grant opportunities to help pay for retraining in a second career choice after a career in dance.

Established in 1985, the Dancer Transition Resource Centre (DTRC) helps dancers make necessary transitions into, within, and from professional performing careers. This program provides assistance to Canadian dance professionals, companies and collectives, and contributes specifically to the costs of international co-productions and international touring opportunities.

Aboriginal Peoples Production Project Grants in Dance

The Short-Term and Long-Term production grants support professional Aboriginal dancers (individuals) or collectives, companies and groups creating and working in all dance genres.

This program aims to respond to the natural cycles of dance works by artists and to bring high quality dance works to audiences. It assists Aboriginal dancers (individuals), groups, organisations and collectives with creative and production work with two streams of funding: Short-Term Grants (support for one project) and Long-Term Grants (support for one major project, such as a full dance program or programs taking 2–4 years to complete).

Multidisciplinary Festivals Project Grants

These grants provide project support for Canadian non-profit organisations with festival programming initiatives.

This program provides support by encouraging festivals to develop new programming initiatives, enhance existing programs, and introduce Canadian artists from diverse regions and cultural backgrounds to new audiences. Priority will be given to festival programming that includes works by Aboriginal artists, artists from diverse regions of Canada, young artists under the age of 30, and work intended for young audiences.

The Flying Squad I: An Organizational Development Program in Dance

This program helps finance consultancy services that help non-profit dance organisations with their professional development, and that assist in finding solutions to internal problems at the organisational level and management challenges in an open and supportive environment.

The aim is to provide professionals in the field with opportunities to develop skills, networks and a support system in which to improve and run strong dance organisations. Consultants will suggest whatever measures they see fit and the organisations who participate are free to implement changes they would like to make based on recommendations. There are different components to this program.

Dance companies, associations or groups of organisations that are one or more of the following:

  • Geographically isolated
  • Currently undergoing restructuring or reorganisation
  • In transition
  • Experiencing a sudden growth spurt
  • Representative of culturally diverse or Aboriginal communities

Dance on Screen Fund (Pilot Program)

This program offers support to dance and media artists, choreographers, independent directors, and producers for projects in Canadian professional screen-based dance work on film/video that has the potential to reach broad audiences.

The Dance on Screen Production Fund is a pilot program that provides financial support for creative excellence in screen-based dance work on film or video. Works that receive funding must have the potential to reach broad audiences, in different regions of the country, on the large or small screen. Funding in the Dance On Screen Fund can be used for project development and production, including distribution plans, broadcast licenses or agreements.
