Canada Music Fund

Arts Promotion Cultural Program

This grant is provided to Canadian groups and individuals for the promotion of Canadian culture abroad in all artistic disciplines by helping to cover the costs of international transportation.

These grants provide project support for Canadian non-profit organisations with festival programming initiatives.

This program provides support by encouraging festivals to develop new programming initiatives, enhance existing programs, and introduce Canadian artists from diverse regions and cultural backgrounds to new audiences. Priority will be given to festival programming that includes works by Aboriginal artists, artists from diverse regions of Canada, young artists under the age of 30, and work intended for young audiences.

This program provides assistance to professional Canadian soloists and groups devoted to developing/presenting new music.

These grants provide assistance to professional Canadian ensembles, performing groups, soloists, producers, presenters and non-profit organisations devoted to the development and presentation of New Music. New Music genres listed by the Council are extensive and include, but are not limited to, alternative, improvised, classical contemporary, digital art, radio art, and soundscape. This granting program has four components: standard project grants, special project grants, solo project gants, and music in alternative spaces grants.

  • For individuals: projects must be self-produced (produced and programmed by the applicant)

Career Development Program: Project Grants to Artists

This program assists professional Canadian musicians in the development of artists' live performance and touring careers.

The purpose is to allow recipients to effectively distribute and promote Canadian specialized music recordings that, despite their cultural significance, have limited access to markets and consumers.

The grants are open to professional musicians, including instrumentalists, singers, composers, arrangers, conductors and opera stage directors.

Please note: approximately 60 grants are awarded per year, and the success rate is as low as 20 percent.

These grants offer Canadian musicians the opportunity to travel on occasions important to their professional development.

This program offers Canadian music professionals the opportunity to travel to enhance their artistic development. Concert Production and Rehearsal Program for Aboriginal, Classical, Folk, Jazz and World Music: Project Funding

This program aims to encourage the performance of music played or composed by Canadian artists by creating opportunities for the presentation of Canadian music.

This grant provides support to small, Canadian professional ensembles/bands/groups that wish to self-produce or co-produce one or more concerts in their local area.  Funding is also provided for groups that wish to rehearse for a special event or to incorporate new Canadian compositions into their performance repertoire.

Eligibility
  • Professional music ensembles/bands/groups of two to 22 musicians
  • Music ensembles/groups/bands must have been established for a number of years or have been working together long enough to create a unique and cohesive musical voice (usually a minimum of one year)
  • Their structure involves a variable number/pool of musicians working together on a regular basis as stated in their artistic mandate
