The Actors' Fund

This fund provides emergency short term assistance to entertainment industry professionals in financial crisis.

The Actors' Fund of Canada is a registered charity that provides emergency financial assistance to entertainment industry professionals if they find themselves in financial crisis. The fund provides confidential and non-judgemental support for entertainment industry professionals in times of illness, injury, sudden unemployment or other circumstances that make it impossible to keep up with regular living expenses.

  • Majority of your living over last 3 years (or if retired, during your working life) in the industry

Theatre Arts Programs

The Banff Centre hosts a wide range of theatre arts programs in playwriting, acting, voicework, as well as in theatre production and stage design.

Set on a campus in a beautiful and inspiring mountain location, the Banff Centre, Alberta, is a prestigious and world-renowned arts, cultural, and educational institution and conference facility. The Theatre Arts program offers a wide range of programs including workshops in voice, stage design and production, dance for theatre, among others. Programs run throughout the year.

The Canada Council of the Arts and the Playwrights Guild of Canada
Playwrights' Readings Program

This program provides financial support to Canadian professional playwrights who are members of the Playwrights Guild of Canada to do public readings across the country, as well as for venues needing assistance to invite playwrights to do a public reading in their community.

This program provides funding support to bring professional playwrights into the wider community. This program assists with the cost of booking playwrights to do readings at venues across the country, and contributes to travel expenses for each reading, as well as paying their reading fees. Funding amounts can be increased for travel to remote areas of the country. A complete list of playwrights available to do readings is available on the Playwrights Guild of Canada website.

Eligibility

For Playwrights:

  • Paid member of the Playwrights Guild of Canada
  • Each member is eligible for funds for up to 3 readings per year

    For the Venues hosting them:

    • Readings must be free of charge
    • Open to the general public
    • Must clearly acknowledge the support of Canada Council and the Playwrights Guild of Canada

The fiscal year for this program runs April 1 to March 31. Funds must be requested in advance of the reading. (Funds are limited and run on a first come first serve basis.)

YES Montreal and the Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF)
YES and CYBF Loans

YES Montreal and CYBF offer a loan of up to $15,000 to help young entrepreneurs aged 18 to 34 to start a new business.

In order to find out all details about the program, you must attend a Grants & Loans information session at YES.

Eligibility
  • Aged 18 to 34
  • Demonstrate relevant knowledge and/or experience within your industry
  • Work in the business on a full-time basis
  • Present a business plan demonstrating the viability of your business
  • Be in business for less than 12 months (from the time of your first sale)
  • Must attend a Grants & Loans Information Session prior to applying for this program
