An internationally experienced choral conductor, Michael Zaugg has worked throughout Europe, Asia and Northamerica with groups such as the Vocal Ensemble of the Royal College Stockholm, Mikaeli Chamber Choir, the award winning Adolf Fredrik Girls choir and the Vancouver Chamber Choir. As Founder and Artistic Director of World Voices, a choral ensemble with professional singers from 25 countries, he has
toured Europe and won prizes at the 33rd international choral
competition in Tolosa.
In 2002 Mr. Zaugg was the first Swiss to be accepted into the prestigious two-year post-graduate program for Professional Choral Conductors at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Sweden. In 2004 Michael Zaugg appeared as a Guest Conductor at the Bramstrup Performing Arts Festival in Denmark with the Danish National Youth Choir and the Academic Chamber Choir of Lublijana (Slovenia).
Since 2004 Michael Zaugg is living in Montreal where he is currently working with the women’s choral Simply Sweetly at McGill. He is also Artistic Director of the Cantata Singers of Ottawa, a chamber choir often featured at the National Arts Centre.
As a music pedagogue he has worked for over 10 years with children and teenagers of all ages and backgrounds. His various high school choirs were invited to participate in professional productions of works such as Matthäuspassion and Carmina Burana. He holds teaching diplomas in Primary Education, in Secondary Education and the equivalent of Masters Degrees in Choral Conducting and Music Education Furthermore he received a post-graduate Diploma in Choral Conducting from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. His conducting teachers include Prof. Anders Eby, Prof. Thüring Bräm, Michael Gohl and Prof. Frieder Bernius.
