In the past few months all of us have been affected by protest marches, pan-demonium parties, hovering helicopters, and the growing feeling that it is time to rethink the model. ELAN's contribution is two-fold. First, we are organizing a record number of schmoozers this summer to provide opportunities for artists to get together in Montreal, Quebec City, West Quebec, the Laurentians and the Townships. Second, we have revisited the schmoozer format to make it more interesting and useful by providing a 'minute market' for you to present your latest work. We invite you to bring along books, CDs, art objects, or event tickets to offer as door prizes. If you have never been to an ELAN schmoozer there will never be a more propitious moment to join the party!

On behalf of the Quebec Anglophone Heritage Network (QAHN) and the English Language Arts Network (ELAN) I am pleased to announce that four film proposals submitted as part of the 2012 StoryNet Documentary Challenge have been selected for production financing.
As one of three judges who reviewed all 51 submissions, I can tell you that making this choice was no small feat, given the variety of powerful story ideas, creative narrative approaches and overall high quality of the projects we considered. The passion with which Quebec filmmakers and artists responded to the StoryNet challenge was truly impressive and these qualities are revealed in the final selection...

Congratulations to Chuck Childs, who received the 2012 Mallory Gilbert Leadership Award from the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres.
Chuck is GM of Centaur Theatre Company, not to mention a founding member and current president of ELAN Quebec Board of Directors.
The award was announced at a ceremony last night in Grand Bend, ON, as part of the annual PACT Conference.

"... The Professional Association of Canadian Theatres is proud to present the fifth annual Mallory Gilbert Leadership Award to Chuck Childs.
Chuck Childs is a production manager and arts administrator who has worked in the Canadian Theatre community for over thirty years. A graduate of the inaugural Ryerson College Theatre program, Chuck then returned to his hometown of Montréal, where he was Production Manager at the Centaur Theatre Company for thirteen seasons before becoming General Manager. A stalwart supporter of both the Canadian theatre community and of PACT, Chuck has chaired PACT committees and negotiating teams and had been called upon to serve as interim treasurer numerous times. In 2005 Chuck helped establish the English Language Arts Network an organization supporting and promoting English-language Artists in Quebec in all disciplines, and is currently serving his second term as President. ..."

What are your strengths and weaknesses while interacting with others? How can you put yourself in the right state of mind for your interactions to become useful to others and for yourself? Discover how you can develop your interactional skills to improve your social networks.
This workshop is being offered by a graduating student of UQAM's Communications - Human Relations program. Some of you have met Philippe-Laurent Lacroix at our December and February schmoozers where he asked you to fill out surveys.
Philippe-Laurent has designed a three-hour training session that will help you build more effective social networks, in cyber world and in the real world.
