George Stamos
Dance
George Stamos is a contemporary dance choreographer and performer whose vivid imagery and physical performances are often laced with humour. Stamos’ work has been presented seasonally in Montreal since 1998 and he has toured Canada and Europe, receiving critical acclaim. In 2009, his 50-minute duo, Cloak, played in New York, Nanaimo, and Montreal, while his six-person piece, Reservoir, played Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Ottawa, Halifax, and Montreal. The Globe and Mail wrote: “His challenging, episodic, prop-filled, imaginative works follow a logic all their own . . . Stamos is continuing to follow his own original choreographic pathway.” Several companies, including New York’s Baryshnikov Arts Center and the Mabou Mines, as well as Berlin’s Tanzfest Im August, have invited him for residencies. Stamos is originally from Nova Scotia. He studied in Amsterdam and settled in Montreal in the late nineties because of its thriving dance community. (PF)
