Derek Yaple-Schobert

Music

Well-traveled and talented pianist Derek Yaple-Schobert guides newcomers as well as seasoned concertgoers on musical journeys enriched by personal commentary.  His recitals feature a broad spectrum of the immortals, such as Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert, Liszt and Prokofiev as well as innovative Quebecois and Canadian works.  Influenced by his Scandinavian heritage, he often infuses his programs with the musical landscapes of Edvard Grieg and Carl Nielsen. Having won numerous awards including 2nd Prize at the National Finals of the Canadian Music Competition and 2nd Prize at the National Eckhardt-Gramatté Competition, Yaple-Schobert tours internationally as an ambassador for the Montreal arts community. Born in the US, he moved to Ottawa at the age of two. Four years later he moved to Montreal, where he has lived ever since.  With two albums under his belt, Bravo! Television has named him among the best of the next generation of Canadian classical musicians. (DN)
