Summary:

This is a selection from my self-produced debut EP. The EP is a collection of home recordings and other material recorded during the summer & fall of 2007 in Montreal. Artists who helped contribute to the EP include: Erik Virtanen & Tasha Cyr (vocals on Far Above the Sky) Kent Walker (engineer on Borderline Ferry) Harris Newman (mastering engineer)

I had a conversation with a friend of mine who worked extensively as an engineer in the past and we were discussing the options that artists have in the studio while creating music. He had suggested that I try making a recording by capturing as many takes as possible and then to go back and listen to each one in order to create a composite of the song, including only the best parts. I decided to try that on this song, and although it is very scaled back, using only one guitar and voice captured together in a live take, the end result is actually a patchwork of many takes that I tried to piece back together. It was recorded at home on my Pro Tools system, using a Neuman TLM103 for the vocals and a Sure SM57 on the guitar.
