Summary:
This is a selection from my self-produced debut EP. The EP is a collection of home recordings and other material recorded during the summer & fall of 2007 in Montreal. Artists who helped contribute to the EP include: Erik Virtanen & Tasha Cyr (vocals on Far Above the Sky) Kent Walker (engineer on Borderline Ferry) Harris Newman (mastering engineer)
This instrumental was written in response to the passing of my guitar teacher Aaron Brock. At the age of 31 Aaron passed in his sleep due to heart failure. He was such an increduble guitarist and teacher, I learned everything that I know about the guitar from him. I wanted to create an instrumental piece that was based on the modal theory that he taught me. The idea was to capture a live recording of the rhythmic fingerstyle bed-track and then overdub an improvised lead part. The song evolved from that. It was recorded on my Pro Tools rig, using one microphone during a beautiful summer day when the sun was shining through my living room wondow. As I played through the parts, I realised that it wouldn’t have been possible to capture this song without the lessons I took with Aaron; and so I dedicate it to him. www.aaronbrockcompetition.com
