The New Sense

www.thenewsense.com

I wrote The New Sense almost in real time from April 2003 to April 2004, incorporating real-world events such as the invasion of Iraq and the birth of my own son in the story.

The narrator, a young Montreal woman who is trying to find the father of her child, is presented as the author of the blog, and in the period since it was published online I've received many emails from people who have discovered the site, unaware that it is a work of fiction, and who are usually concerned about the narrator's welfare.

I also created several pieces of "evidence" using Photoshop and Illustrator, which are included on the site as clues to the identity and whereabouts of the missing father.

The novel's central theme is epistemology, which is why it was particularly appropriate to use the shifting, unreliable medium of the internet and to present the work as though written by a separate author from myself.
