John-Felice Ceprano
I am a multi media artist and refer to my work as “The pursuit of balance”, referring not only to the balancing of rocks and space, but also the evolution and discovery of harmony and beauty.
"The Pursuit of Balance” practice began in 1986, creating balanced, temporal, natural rock sculptures 'in situ' at Remic Rapids Park in downtown Ottawa. The work began innocently and without a goal or intention, but by 1989, Canada Arts Council supported the project, encouraging me to pursue the project further. Since 2000, the project has been supported and funded by the National Capital Commission, which has allowed the work to evolve without compromise or legal concerns.
Residential and commercial rock sculptures projects are also available and are approached with the same principles of balance and harmony, but are assembled in a permanent and stable condition.
Painting is an equally important passion. The paintings are fauvist is nature, but like the sculptures, are created entirely by hand. Painting by hand allows a direct contact to form and colour, thus transferring the information of the sculptural experience into the paintings, another perception of "The pursuit of balance".
Photography has also evolved with the new media technology, allowing for the production of lithographic-like prints on watercolour paper. This work refers to 'non silver' gum dichromate printing which is another expression of balance between watercolour painting and photography.
It's always about balance, and it doesn't matter what medium is pirsued, the result must be balanced, and contribute to a sense of harmony and peace.
