Derek Yaple-Schobert

Dynamic young pianist Derek Yaple-Schobert has made a name for himself as an ambassador of Standard and Scandinavian classical piano music. He enjoys a wide popular following in Montreal, where he has played to capacity audiences as guest soloist with the Montreal Young Virtuosi and as recitalist for "Les Jeunes artistes" of Radio-Canada, the Lakeshore Chamber Music Society, Maison Trestler, Ogilvy's Tudor Hall and the Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur. Internationally, Yaple-Schobert has also performed in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, USA and the Czech Republic. His enthusiasm for Scandinavian music resulted in the Royal University College of Music in Stockholm, Sweden, inviting Yaple-Schobert as a 2001–2002 International Guest, selecting him as one of the five pianists chosen to attend the "Edsberg Musikinstitution".

He holds a Doctorate of Music from the Université de Montréal and his additional accomplishments include prizes at Prix d'Europe, Eckhardt-Gramatté National Competition and the National Finals of the Canadian Music Competition. In January 2005, he will be featured on the first episode of The Classical Now, to be broadcast on the BRAVO! Television Network.
