The Conseil des arts de Montréal is currently preparing its 2017-2020 Strategic Plan. Four main orientations will guide our policies over the next few years. To establish these priorities, we assessed the previous plan, taking into account the changing realities within the artistic community.

We are asking you today to take a few moments to tell us what you think of these four orientations. This exercise is important to us—as it is to you—to ensure that our future actions have a significant and positive impact throughout the Montreal region.

You have until August 18 to participate.

Step 1:
Discover our proposed orientations and actions.

Step 2:
Give your opinion online on our main orientations.

ELAN is all grown up! After 13 years we have finally moved out of shared accommodations into our own self-contained office — with a view! But we haven’t gone far, just one floor up!

Come say hi and check out our new space at 708-460 Ste-Catherine West.

The AFC is conducting a national survey to understand more about entertainment industry workers and household finances. The AFC wants to get a whole picture of the workforce to help it plan its future and ensure that it’s a strong lifeline, providing emergency financial aid for years to come.

This survey is for anyone who works as a union or guild member in TV, film, and theatre, but The AFC remains committed to serving all professionals in Canadian TV, film, music, theatre and dance.

Please take a few minutes to fill out this survey before August 11.

ELAN is pleased to announce that we have received funding from le Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) for a four-year period. This marks the first time since its conception 13 years ago that ELAN has been eligible for CALQ’s multi-year support program. We look forward to putting this financing towards connecting and supporting English-speaking artists in Quebec.
This grant will give us the opportunity to expand our team! Stay tuned for upcoming ELAN job postings soon.

Take our legal services survey!

All artists require legal services, and an impressive amount of support is currently available, although not widely known. ELAN wants its members to be aware of existing legal services, what they cost, and under what conditions they are available.

ELAN has recently been in discussion with lawyers who are willing to offer reasonably priced, personalized legal services. To help us help the lawyers help you, please take a few minutes to fill out this short survey.

If you have questions, call Guy Rodgers, ELAN Executive Director, at 514.935.3312.

This year we have some important motions to pass that will directly influence our membership structure. Professional, Student, and Organizational ELAN members in good standing as of August 9 can vote during the business portion of the AGM. Renew your membership before August 9 to ensure that you can vote! Friend members and observers can’t vote, but are welcome to attend.

We are halfway through summer and at the mid-point of Arts Alive! Québec 2017.  Festivities at Knowlton and Quebec City were not dampened by the ubiquitous rain of June, and the sun shone on Hudson for their lively July weekend. If you missed the first three festivals, check out some photos here. Coming up next is Huntingdon on August 19, followed by Wakefield and Pointe-Claire in September. Plan a day trip! All programming and activity details are listed on the Arts Alive! website.

For ELAN members and friends in Montreal we have the August 8 Schmoozer at the St-Ambroise Terrasse, where some of ELAN’s first Schmoozers were held back when we had our office at the Lachine Canal Complexe. We’ve organized a bike convoy from Lionel-Groulx metro and a shuttle car service from St-Henri metro. See below to RSVP.

The most important ELAN event of the year is our Annual General Meeting. This year’s edition will take place on Tuesday, August 29 at Le Gesù (1200 Bleury, Montreal). Board members for 2017-18 will be confirmed, project managers will bring you up to speed on ELAN’s accomplishments, and staff will be on hand to answer your questions. Plus, we have some very important motions (link to documents on ELAN site) that need your voice—and your vote! After the business meeting, we will have a party to celebrate the best year in ELAN’s history. I hope to see you there.
