ELAN’s 15th Annual General Meeting on August 26 was followed by a lively party at the historical Rialto Theatre. If you missed the AGM, the documents are available on-line. With considerable sadness we said au revoir to Bettina Forget, Kristelle Holliday, Fortner Anderson and Amy Macdonald. As I shared with you last month, these four people have been instrumental in ELAN’s development, and they will be sorely missed.
ELAN members also elected seven board members for two-year terms: Paul Bracegirdle (Writing & Publishing), Keith Henderson (Association of English-language Publishers), Blair Mackay (Arts Presenting Organizations), Tim Piper (Regions), Deirdre Potash (Regions), Victoria Sanchez (Film and Video) and Quinten Sheriff (Visual Arts). They join the 10 board members elected in 2018: Purna Bhattacharya (Corporate) Patrick Lloyd Brennan (Quebec Drama Federation) Louise Campbell (Music and Vice-President), Angie Cheng (Dance), Karen Cho (Film & Video and Secretary), Kakim Goh (Visual Arts and Treasurer), Isak Goldschneider (Music), Li Li (Theatre and President), Lori Schubert (Quebec Writers’ Federation), and Roger Sinha (Dance). You can see board bios here, and staff bios here. I look forward to working with the new board as we move into a period of strategic planning based on the past decade of work and new ideas that came from State of the Arts consultations.
More than two hundred members, friends, partners and funders joined us for the 15th anniversary party after the AGM. MC Jimmy Blais presented the evening’s entertainment: short videos featuring memories of ELAN members (Part 1 here and Part 2 here), and performances by the Hip Hop Brass Band Urban Science, Greg Sellinger and Travis Knights, Irem Bekter, Titters (Janis Kirchner and Laura Mitchell), Carolyn Fe trio, Andrea Pena & dancers, and Kevin Harvey trio. Thanks to everyone who performed at the 15th anniversary party, worked behind the scenes, or came out to celebrate with us. It was a splendid evening to acknowledge how much we have accomplished together in 15 years.
