Executive Director\u2019s Message \u2013 July 2021<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island are in tremendous pain.The last several weeks have been difficult and unsettling for us all and as a community of artists we must recognize, reflect and respond. I invite you at this time to listen and learn, to visit and read ELAN\u2019s Inclusion Plan<\/span><\/a>, and consider what actions you might be able to take towards decolonization.<\/p>\n

On the advocacy front, at the provincial level we are continuing to closely monitor Bill 96<\/a> and its inherent implications for English-speaking artists in Quebec. At the federal level, the Government of Canada released English and French: Towards the Substantive Equality of Official Languages in Canada<\/span><\/em><\/a>, a policy paper on revising the federal approach to Canada’s Official Languages Act.\u00a0 As community concerns roll in and further developments come together, we are preparing a webinar and Q&A session for members on these issues slated for August.<\/p>\n

A reminder to mark your calendars and save the date for ELAN\u2019s 17th Annual General Meeting to be held virtually on August 23rd<\/sup>, 2021. We look forward to having all of our members and partners join us for the meeting and celebratory livestream event afterwards! More details and invitations to come.<\/p>\n

As we prepare for a busy Fall and Winter season, the ELAN team will be turning inward and working primarily on internal strategic planning, assessing programs, projects, and services, and planning a targeted series of curated series of workshops, networking, and other events for the 2021-2022 season. Please note that until the Fall our external communications including the Member Exclusive and the newsletter will be on hiatus. We look forward to coming back with a refreshed new look and energizing programming and services for our members.<\/p>\n

Les Peuples Autochtones d’\u00cele de la Tortue souffrent \u00e9norm\u00e9ment. Les derni\u00e8res semaines ont \u00e9t\u00e9 difficiles et troublantes pour nous tous et, en tant que communaut\u00e9 d’artistes, nous devons reconna\u00eetre, r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir et r\u00e9agir. Je vous invite en ce moment \u00e0 \u00e9couter et \u00e0 apprendre, \u00e0 visiter et \u00e0 lire le plan d’inclusion<\/span><\/a> d’ELAN, et \u00e0 r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir aux actions que vous pourriez entreprendre en faveur de la d\u00e9colonisation.<\/p>\n

Sur le front de la sensibilisation, au niveau provincial, nous continuons \u00e0 suivre de pr\u00e8s le d\u00e9roulement du projet de loi 96<\/a> et ses implications inh\u00e9rentes\u00a0 pour les artistes qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois d\u2019expression anglaise du Qu\u00e9bec.
