{"id":72970,"date":"2026-02-06T13:19:23","date_gmt":"2026-02-06T18:19:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.quebec-elan.org\/?p=72970"},"modified":"2026-02-06T13:20:00","modified_gmt":"2026-02-06T18:20:00","slug":"elans-response-to-enquetes-live-nation-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.quebec-elan.org\/en\/elans-response-to-enquetes-live-nation-report\/","title":{"rendered":"ELAN\u2019s Response to\u00a0Enqu\u00eate\u2019s\u00a0Live Nation\u00a0Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-72971\" src=\"https:\/\/www.quebec-elan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/image-300x59.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"59\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.quebec-elan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/image-300x59.png 300w, https:\/\/www.quebec-elan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/image.png 331w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>February 6, 2026 <\/em><br \/>\n<em>Montreal<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Last night, Radio-Canada\u2019s\u00a0premier\u00a0investigative\u00a0journalism program\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ici.radio-canada.ca\/tele\/enquete\/site\/episodes\/1143860\/voler-le-show\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Enqu\u00eate<\/em> aired an in-depth report<\/a>\u00a0examining the business model and practices of global live entertainment giant\u00a0<strong>Live Nation<\/strong> and it\u2019s Montreal-based subsidiary\u00a0<strong>Evenko<\/strong>, in which Live Nation\u00a0acquired\u00a0a\u00a0<strong>49% ownership stake in 2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The investigation is the result of careful work by one of\u00a0Quebec\u2019s most respected investigative journalists and\u00a0investigative journalism teams. It was meticulously fact-checked and reviewed by Radio-Canada\u2019s legal department prior to broadcast.<\/p>\n<p>The dynamics highlighted in the\u00a0investigation have been well known to ELAN for\u00a0years. We hope this\u00a0report\u00a0engages the culture sector and our elected officials in an open conversation about structural problems and long-term solutions capable of strengthening Quebec\u2019s independent live music ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p>One such solution would be the introduction of a\u00a0<strong>ticket levy on large-scale concerts<\/strong> as proposed in an <a href=\"https:\/\/lessmaq.ca\/quelle-nation-protegera-live-nation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">open letter by Les SMAQ<\/a> in March of 2025,\u00a0 funding a dedicated support program for independent music venues across Qu\u00e9bec. This private fund would offer autonomy and long-term stability to these space that present a majority of Quebec\u2019s professional English-language concerts.\u00a0Inspired by a similar mechanism in the United Kingdom this approach offers\u00a0a viable\u00a0way to bridge the growing gap between vertically integrated multinational promoters and small independent venues, while\u00a0maintaining\u00a0the sector\u2019s\u00a0ecosystemic\u00a0balance.<\/p>\n<p>ELAN urges the various levels of government to encourage the sector to implement these sorts of solutions, necessary to ensure the survival of Quebec\u2019s cultural ecosystem.
