She began with us with an internship (CultivART Internship through the Conseil des Arts de Montr\u00e9al), and continuing through her participation through generous donations of her beaded floral earrings to daphne\u2019s Naabidoo\u2019igan auctions in 2024 and 2025, her solo exhibit Kakar\u00e1htatie \/ Carrying Stories in 2025 and her place in our most recent group exhibit IOWER\u0100:KAHRE \/ HAU MARANGAI \/ THE WIND IS HOWLING, with work by 13 artists from across Turtle Island and Aotearoa. Sierra also participated in Part 1 of this exhibit, which was held at HOEA! She is from Port Dover, ON, graduated from OCAD University with a BFA in Sculpture and Installation, with a minor in the Indigenous Visual Culture Program (2015), and completed her MFA in Painting and Drawing (2025) at Concordia University in Tiohti\u00e1:ke\/Montreal, QC. While creating space to explore her relationship with storytelling, Barber reflects upon and balances the layered experiences of her identities. Her work has been shown at the Woodland Cultural Centre, Stewart Hall Art Gallery, Rimouski Regional Museum and HOEA! Gallery (Aotearoa\/New Zealand), as well as in the 7th Contemporary Native Art Biennial (BACA).Barber is currently working with the Mus\u00e9e d&#8217;art contemporain de Montr\u00e9al (MAC), as part I combine beadwork and oil painting, two traditionally contrasting materials, to create a language that interprets my inner world. My work references Haudenosaunee visual and material culture and adds my voice to its continuance. During my MFA I am grateful to have met and worked with my professors Bea Parsons and Hannah Claus, both of whom have helped me shape my work and have also connected me with many people and opportunities as I adjusted to living in a new city.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><i>If you could tell your younger self something, what would it be?<\/i>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I would tell my younger artist self to experiment with many ways of working, and to follow all of the things that I\u2019m drawn to and bring many influences and experiences into the work. It takes time to recognize the consistencies that come up across your work and to realise that this is your artistic voice coming through, this is how you tell your story.
