Explore and Create: Artist-Driven Organizations

DESCRIPTION

The Artist-Driven Organizations component of Explore and Create supports the development of artistic activities, from research, creation, and production through to dissemination, by Canadian arts organizations that are driven by the vision of artistic leaders. Grants fund the activities of organizations mandated to support the creative process of artists, stimulating the emergence of new artistic voices and offering a range of artistic experiences to the public.

Most core grant applications must be translated into French or English. Please see guidelines for details and the translation deadline date.

CRITERIA

Potential applicants to this component:

  • Artistic organizations

To be eligible, organizations must create, produce, present or exhibit the work of artists and be driven by the vision and voice of an artistic leader or group of artists. Organizations must support the development and dissemination of works by Canadian artists and presently receive core support from this component.

OR:

  • Have received 1 composite grant or 2 Canada Council project grants in the last 5 years. This excludes grants from the following components: Travel, Representation and Promotion, Translation, Small-Scale Activities, Creation Accelerator, Frankfurt initiatives, Digital Originals, Digital Now, Digital Generator, the COVID-19 Emergency Support Fund, Grow Stage 1 and the Canada-Korea Connections Fund.
  • Be an incorporated not-for-profit arts organization
  • Work with a professional staff
  • Have at least 5 years of continuous professional artistic activities that are accessible to the public. In light of the global pandemic, the completed years of activity do not need to be consecutive.
  • Have had total revenues exceeding $75 000 in each of the last 3 years (some exceptions may be considered)

EXPENSES

All expenses related to supporting activities such as:

  • artistic development
  • creative research
  • creation
  • production
  • dissemination

DOCUMENTS

All applications are made through the portal. Once registered, applicants must provide information about:

  • artistic vision and the context for your plans in relation to your artistic or regional community
  • past cycle of funding, including highlights, challenges and knowledge gained
  • upcoming artistic activities and public outreach
  • professional working conditions for artists
  • impact and the benefits of your activities on artists, participants, volunteers, audiences, and the various
  • communities served by your organization
  • key partnerships, if applicable
  • operations, including administrative structure, planning and financial health
  • aims and objectives for your next funding cycle
  • CADAC data, including recent financial statements. If you have an accumulated deficit (line 6215 of CADAC financial form) for your most recently completed fiscal year of more than 10% of revenue or an unrestricted net asset deficiency (line 6310 of CADAC financial form) of more than 25% of the total revenue, you must upload a deficit reduction plan that includes targets and timelines as part of your required documents. If the net assets presented in your financial statements include restricted and capital assets, please ensure they are presented as such in the CADAC financial form.

You will also need to include:

  • samples of your recent work and public artistic activities
  • your organization’s most recent respectful workplace/anti-harassment policy
  • the completed Appendices document
  • a translation of your application into French or English by the Translation deadline date if applicable
