Keroul is an organization that supports and advocates for accessible tourism and culture in Quebec. This page provides a search tool to find spaces that were assigned accessibility ratings “from a visitor’s point-of-view.” At the bottom of this page, under the “Events” tab, Keroul lists its criteria for accessible event spaces, with regard to motor, visual and hearing impairment.

RAAP Montreal is a collaboration between Accessibilize Montreal and CURE. It’s an initiative to document the accessibility of urban spaces in the hope of “collectively creating useful, accurate, broad-based and up-to-date accessibility information about the physical environment so we can make informed choices about what events and spaces we participate in and support.”  (RAMP, 2013)

Since its creation in 2006, DAM has taken on the mission to promote cultural diversity in the arts by encouraging the recognition and inclusion of all artists in professional networks, cultural institutions and distribution channels in Montreal. Diversité artistique Montréal (DAM) was established by the Delegation for Cultural Diversity Montreal,  a group created in March 2004 following a day focused on cultural diversity in the arts organized by the Conseil des arts de Montréal (CAM).

Since 2006, execo has been using creativity (art and philosophy) for the social inclusion of people who experience(d) or are at risk of exclusion. execo uses both practical approaches of intellectual and cultural mediation, and systemic approaches inspired from social innovation, as motors of social transformation, to act positively on society, individually and collectively: intellectual emancipation, prevention of exclusion (homelessness, crime, suicide, drug addiction), citizen and cultural participation, inter-recognition, identity reinforcement, etc.

NIMAC is a permanent region within the structure of the Independent Media Arts Alliance (IMAA), a non-profit national organization working to advance the media arts community in Canada and representing 80+ independent media arts organizations across the country. NIMAC acts as the Indigenous arm of the IMAA. Founded in 1995, the Quebec Community Groups Network (QCGN) is a not-for-profit organization linking more than 50 English-language community organizations across Quebec.

Reclaim Indigenous Arts was created as an awareness campaign and a Call to Action. Reclaim is seeking supporters to END cultural appropriation in Canada. One initiative of this campaign is to help secure work for the indigenous community by replacing knockoff objects with authentic Indigenous made products. Buy from the artists directly or from reputable Indigenous-owned or Indigenous-allied galleries and gift shops.

The CRC provides information and referral services to citizens, and in collaboration with its community partners, it aims to strengthen the development of the community sector.

Education

The Pointe-Saint-Charles Art School is a non-profit fine arts school located at Bâtiment 7, serving Pointe-Saint-Charles and the Greater Montreal area.

The QBBE is a not-for-profit community organization situated in the Notre-dame-de-grace borough (NDG). The QBBE has been the educational resource organization for the Black Community for the past 50 years. Thus it makes representation to the government, provides advocacy, research, program development, and knowledge dissemination about education issues impacting the Black Community. The primary aim of QBBE’s programming is to improve academic deficiency among youth through remedial programs.

The RQD Dancer Training Support Program has been helping dancers defray part of the cost of their regular training since 1994. Whether you are in a rehearsal period, a performance period, currently unemployed, the program offers direct financial assistance paid on presentation of your receipts.

This component of the Government of Québec’s Culture in the Schools program allows students to participate, for an extended period of 4 to 12 weeks, in a project involving artistic exploration. It also offers professional artists or writers an opportunity to spend time in the school environment and to find inspiration there for their own creative pursuits.

The Thomas More Institute has been providing adults with stimulating lifelong and life-wide learning opportunities since 1945. A secular non-profit academic institution, it offers an ever-evolving choice of university-level courses in the liberal arts. Its affiliation with Bishop’s University provides students, who so choose, the option of earning a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Funding & Grants

Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) supports, throughout Québec, creation, experimentation, production and dissemination in the realms of the visual arts, the arts and crafts, literature, the performing arts, the multidisciplinary arts, cinema and video, the digital arts and architectural research. CALQ also seeks to broaden the influence of artists, writers, arts organizations and their works in Québec, Canada and abroad.

Dans une perspective de développement culturel, le Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec a pour mission de soutenir, dans toutes les régions du Québec, la création artistique et littéraire, l’expérimentation, la production et la diffusion. Health & Well-being

Action Autonomie is a community non-profit organization. It has been set up by people who have used voluntary or non-mental health services. Their experiences will have forged the need to come together to assert their rights.

AHCF, based in Toronto, is the only organization in Canada that provides health and wellness support for artists of all disciplines in all stages of their careers, including those behind the scenes. The mission of AHCF is to provide leadership in health advocacy, offer health and wellness education for artists of all disciplines, support artists’ use of specialized arts medicine and integrative healthcare, promote state-of-the-art research, and act as a catalyst for advancing the health and well-being of our artistic community.

Action Santé Travesti(e)s et Transsexuel(le)s du Québec (ASTT(e)Q), also known as Québec Trans Health Action, is a project of CACTUS-Montréal which was founded in 1998. ASTT(e)Q was started largely in response to the need for access to health care and social services that were sensitive to trans people’s needs. The project grew out of a support group for trans women living with HIV, and was informed by a trans community led needs assessment that aided in determining the shape and direction of ASTT(e)Q.

Atelier De La Mezzanine (Québec, QC) was created in 1999 to offer a space of creation to people who are marginalized because of having, or having had, mental health problems. The Atelier also works with professional artists and integrating its members into organizational life and structures.

Mission: Support women in their reclaiming of their own gynecological health; Defend and promote the right to free abortion on demand; Represent women and demand that their rights and agency are respected by economic and policy decision-makers as well as the health system.

Since August 2017, Over The Bridge has trained, educated and/or emotionally supported over 2,000 music industry members. In an industry where maintaining good mental health is challenging, and substance abuse is normalized and glorified, it is our goal to help those in need cross the bridge over troubled waters.

Tiger Lotus Collective is a wellness centre offering tender loving care and education. We are practitioners and educators in Montreal passionate about healing in its many forms. The health care system, with its narrow scope of treatments and overburdened hospitals and clinics, is unequipped to deal with physical and psychological issues that impact women and trans people. We focus on providing a preventative instead of curative model of health care and try to educate about our bodies and spirits, and how best to care for them in the day-to-day.

Access Copyright is a collective voice of creators and publishers in Canada. A non-profit, national organization, we represent tens of thousands of Canadian writers, visual artists and publishers, and their works. We license the copying of this repertoire to educational institutions, businesses, governments and others. The proceeds gathered when content is copied, remixed and shared are passed along to the copyright-holders.

CJAM is a charity dedicated to offering free legal information services to our city’s artists. CJAM hosts workshops and legal information nights that will provide you with basic legal knowledge in a number of areas relevant to your work.

Juripop fights, first of all, to improve access to the justice system for all citizens. It as well promotes the defense of social, economic and human rights. More specifically, the Clinique juridique Juripop offers legal services at very modest cost to people excluded from the government legal aid, but who are financially unable to pay for the defense of their rights. Resources for Newcomers & Immigrants

Afrique au Féminin is the only women’s centre in Parc-Extension, a district located in the Centre-North borough, where there is a high concentration of people from ethnocultural communities and almost 50% of whom are women facing various barriers of integration. The Centre is a place of meeting, belonging, socialization, mutual aid, solidarity, mentoring and action for all women in general and those from visible minorities, particularly those experiencing difficulties in their process. social and economic integration in Quebec society and wanting to break their isolation.

Based in the borough of Saint-Léonard, the AIEM offers a wide range of complementary services to facilitate the integration of immigrants and their families. Their organization provides support services and settlement assistance to refugee claimants and other newcomers. aaronmusic productions is a one-stop music and audio company run by veteran Canadian musician Aaron Saloman. Aaron has composed for video games including American Idol Mobile and Critter Crunch PSN (Best Downloadable Game, 2010 Canadian Video Game Awards), and had his music used in shows including NCIS (CBS), Jersey Shore (MTV), Gone too Far and Teen Cribs (MTV), Departures (Outdoor Life Network, National Geographic Adventure), American Pickers (History Channel), The TO Show (VH1), Real Housewives of Atlanta (Bravo), The Bitter End (Canadian web show), Get a Life/Grouille-Toi (TVOntario), The Imploders (TLC), Party Down (Starz), Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best (WE tv), Chris and John to the Rescue (OutTV, MTV Logo), and Gourmet Adventures with Ruth (PBS), to name just a few. He has also produced recordings by Lukas Grant, Eleanore Altman, Lakeport Auto Electric, Kostis Chaveles, and many others.

Recently, Aaron has started a publishing arm of the company in order to represent other artists’ music for sync licensing in film, TV, and multimedia. Kevin O’Neil is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, producer, coach, and music educator based in Montreal. He works in an ever-widening variety of genres and media, including scoring for film and stage. He holds a Masters degree in composition from Université de Montréal and is PhD-ABD in music education at McGill. He teaches guitar, bass, ukulele, theory, and composition.

Land Acknowledgement

ELAN is an official minority language organization within a country that recognizes two languages as official. ELAN is located in Tiohtià:ke, the original name for Montreal in Kanien’kéha, the language of the Mohawk—also known as Mooniyang, which is the Anishinaabeg name given to the city by the Algonquin. While we are based in this city, our projects have also taken place in many regions across Quebec.

We acknowledge the colonial origin of English and French in Canada, and recognize that both languages benefit from official status throughout the land. The province that we know as Quebec is an amalgamation of the traditional territories of the Innu and Inuit nations, Algonquian nations, as well as the Mohawk nations of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. Kanien’kéha and Anishinaabemowin are but two of the original languages of this province; Atikamekw, Cree, Inuktitut, and Innu-aimun are also among the many Indigenous languages spoken across Quebec as majority languages, all well before French and English.

ELAN acknowledges the important work being done by First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples to revive the traditional languages of these territories, and their advocacy for the official status of Indigenous languages.
