The Arts and Older Adults

Visual Arts

I have been working with retirees for the last ten years, offering a range of art and art history workshops. Many older adults focus on their artistic passions later in life and I love to help them to discover their hidden talents and explore new interests. The workshops I offer connect art and astronomy, inspired by my own artistic practice. Aside from learning art techniques, participants also delve into subjects such as planetary research, the Moon, and life beyond Earth, enriching the creative experience.

Sample workshop:

Sketching the Moon
The Moon is our closest celestial neighbour. It has fascinated our imagination since time immemorial and has inspired countless poems, folk tales, and songs. The Moon has also been explored by astronomers and astronauts who investigate its rugged surface and make plans for human inhabitants. This workshop invites participants to learn more about the Moon through artistic practice. Sharpen your observation and drawing skills while familiarizing yourself with different types of Moon craters and get a sense of the unique light and shadow on the lunar surface. No drawing or astronomy experience is required!
