Artist and studio-apartment residency exchanges between Québec and Japan

Échanges d’artistes et d’ateliers-résidences Québec – Japon

DESCRIPTION

The residency at the Tokyo Arts and Space will enable Québec artists and writers to engage in a significant experience contributing to their professional development. The new living environment and interaction with other artists will create conditions favourable to the fostering of creativity and the evolution of artistic approaches, indeed to the enhancement of the artists’ international career profiles.
Under this program, a Québec artist (visual or digital arts) will be awarded a three-month residency in Tokyo, where he or she will have access to a workshop/residence and, in terms of career development, will benefit from a potentially wide range of professional contacts.

Information of the host institution
Founded in 2001, Tokyo Arts and Space (previous name: Tokyo Wonder Site) is an art centre that serves both as a hub to support and promote Japanese artists and since 2006, a centre to welcome international artists in residency. TOKAS comprises two venues dedicated to the production and showcasing of artworks, TOKAS Hongo and TOKAS Shibuya, as well as a national and international residency site, TOKAS Residency, situated in the Sumida Ward. TWS supports and nurtures talent in all creative disciplines, as much for emerging artists as for more established international artists. TOKAS forms part of a global network of affiliated cultural facilities in Japan and abroad, and serves as a platform for Japanese artists and internationally active creators to exchange and showcase their works.
