DESCRIPTION

The Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) is proud to have partnered with Place des Arts (PDA) since 2016-2017 to enable the production of digital works exhibited in the Espace Culturel Georges-Émile-Lapalme. Located inside Place des Arts, the Espace culturel Georges-Émile-Lapalme is a large indoor public space frequented by hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Thanks to this partnership, 12 digital works have been produced and broadcasted at Place des Arts.

The call for projects for the creation of digital works is designed to:

  • Support and stimulate the creation of digital works.
  • Offer artists an exciting exhibition platform.
  • Contribute to the visibility and dissemination of new digital works in public space.

IMPORTANT: This program is not available through Mon dossier CALQ. You must complete the grant application form available on the “Presentation of the application” section.

CRITERIA

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • have presented a body or a series of works publicly, in venues and/or a context recognized by his peers. These works must have been produced independently of his training or subsequent to it.
  • In film and video: have participated as a production designer, director or screenwriter in at least one independent production.

If an applicant submits a project in a discipline other than the one in which he normally pursues his career, his project must satisfy the eligibility criteria for the new discipline in which he is applying for a grant.

Nature of the project
  • The lenght of the work is a minimum of 2 minutes and a maximum of 4 minutes.
  • Works will be produced according to a schedule established by the PDA and the artist. They must be delivered by December 2025 at the latest.
  • The digital work will be exhibited in the multimedia area – the Mosaic – set up in the hallway of the Espace Culturel Georges-Émile-Lapalme, according to a schedule established by Place des Arts.
  • An agreement will be established between the recipient artist and PDA and will indicate the terms of payment for the grant.
  • Take into account the limitations of the multimedia device provided by Place des Arts, made up of 35 HD monitors (46 by 55 inches) and VersaTubes (light tubes).
  • Produce a work on the Mosaic using a graphics program such as Adobe After Effects. PDA provides the After Effects template to enable you to adapt your visual material to the Mosaic.
  • Provide a storyboard of the project.

The candidate must respect the detailed technical specifications (689 KB) (732 Kb) (PDF) and is invited to see the mosaic board (338 KB) (65 Kb) (png) before designing their project.

EXPENSES

  • Candidate’s remuneration.
  • Research expenses.
  • Fees for participant artists (excluding the artist applicant).
  • Production expenses such as workshop rental, expenditures for materials, equipment rental, and expenses arising from service contracts and other expenses.
  • Living expenses (hotel and meals) to a maximum of $125 per day in Canada and $200 per day outside Canada for up to 15 days.
  • Ground and air transportation expenses.
  • Travel-related expenses such as vaccinations, visas, insurance, etc.

The purchase of specialized equipment is eligible solely with regard to equipment required to carry out the project that cannot be rented or whose purchase price is lower than the rental price. Supporting documents must be submitted.

DOCUMENTS

  • Completed application form
  • Form containing the details of the project (including Appendix 1).
  • Form containing personal information, completed and signed
  • Applicant’s Curriculum vitae (maximum 3 pages)
  • Curriculum vitae of participant artists and main collaborators on the project (maximum: three pages per person)
  • Detailed work plan, including a timeline for completion. This must take into account the timetable for the installation and dissemination of the work at Place des arts:
    • Delivery of the work: December 2025
    • Diffusion of the work: Starting January 2026
  • Detailed budget for the project
  • A press file composed of no more than five pages of photocopies of press clippings published in the previous five years
  • Storyboard of the project
  • For support material, web link(s) to one or more audio or video documents totaling no more than 15 minutes, if applicable. Viewing notes facilitate the work of the selection committee
