Culture-Education: Schools Host an Artist or Writer

Culture-éducation : Une école accueille un artiste ou un écrivain

DESCRIPTION

This component of the Culture in the Schools program allows students to participate, for an extended period of four to 12 weeks, in a project involving artistic exploration. It also offers professional artists or writers an opportunity to spend time in the school environment and to find inspiration there for their own creative pursuits.

CRITERIA

Artists and writers may submit a maximum of two application packages for projects to be carried out during the current school year. In total, these two projects can be funded for a maximum of 18 weeks.

To be eligible, projects must:

  • Start and finish during the same school year
  • Involve the participation of a cultural partner (in the same or a neighbouring region) who is listed in the Répertoire culture-éducation
  • Last from four to 12 weeks (a week is equal to 20 hours, consecutive or not, spent at the school during a single week)
  • Include artistic exploration work by the students and involve the active participation of the teacher and the artist or writer
  • Include a personal creative work that enables the artist or writer to develop his or her creative process
  • Take place primarily during regular school hours

The following activities are not eligible:

  • Activities focused solely on teaching students a technique or theoretical knowledge
  • One-off workshops
  • Projects focused exclusively on cultural outreach with students
  • Fundraising activities for a school or school board project (e.g. benefit show, fundraiser)

EXPENSES

  • Cultural partners’ fees are reimbursed to a maximum of $1,000 per week per artist or writer, and up to $3,000 per week for groups of artists or writers
  • Accommodation and travel expenses
  • Specialized materials or equipment rental costs
  • Purchasing books
  • Administrative
