Micro-grants

DESCRIPTION

Micro-grants funds activities that will grow and advance your artistic career or practice. This may include engaging in career or artistic development activities, participation in a presentation or exhibition opportunity, increasing accessibility for audiences, artists and/or arts workers who are Deaf or have disabilities or market and network development.

CRITERIA

Potential applicants:

  • Artists or arts workers
  • First Nations, Inuit or Métis artists or arts/cultural workers
  • First Nations, Inuit or Métis cultural carriers
  • Artistic groups
  • Arts supporting groups
  • First Nations, Inuit or Métis groups or collectives
  • Artistic organizations
  • Supporting organizations
  • Presenting organizations
  • First Nations, Inuit or Métis not-for-profit organizations
  • First Nations, Inuit or Métis for-profit organizations

 

Eligible activities

A project may consist of one or more of the following activities:

  • Career or artistic development and acquiring knowledge
  • Increasing accessibility for audiences, artists and/or arts workers who are Deaf or have disabilities
  • Market and network development
  • Participation in a presentation or exhibition opportunity

Ineligible activities:

  • Projects that mainly focus on creation (see Artistic Creation)

EXPENSES

  • Professional fees or honoraria paid to artists, cultural participants, other arts workers, mentors, consultants and compensation or personal expenses. Enter these expenses on the Artists and Professional Fees, Cultural Participant Fees OR Compensation OR Personal Costs line.
  • Honoraria for Elders and Knowledge Keepers, including payments or gifts for individuals as a thank you for their time and knowledge. Enter these expenses on the Honoraria for Elders and Knowledge Keepers line.
  • Registration or training expenses. Enter these amounts on the Registration Fees for Professional Development line.
  • Renting or purchasing materials for learning, creation, presentation or exhibition. Enter these amounts on the Materials and Supplies line.
  • Production, exhibition or learning expenses, etc. Enter these amounts on the Equipment Rental expenses line.
  • Costs for venue or facility rental for exhibitions, presentations, performances or studio training. Enter these amounts on the Venue, Studio, Facility Rental expenses line.
  • Travel expenses (domestic and international) including accommodation, per diems, meals and transportation expenses (example: airfare, train tickets, bus fare, kilometric rates, taxi and shuttle fares, local travel), etc. Enter these amounts in the Travel Expenses section.
  • Safety-related expenses to make your project safe for participants, such as supplementary insurance riders, safety gear, on-site specialists, etc. Enter these expenses on the Safety-Related Costs line.
  • Child or dependent care expenses if they are required to complete your activity (excluding regular, ongoing expenses). Enter these expenses on the Childcare/Dependent Care Costs line.

Accessibility expenses

Accessibility expenses refer to Deaf- and disability-related access requirements. These can include costs related to:

  • making your project accessible to the public
  • making your project accessible to invited participants
  • meeting your own personal access needs related to participating in an activity for which you are not receiving funding from the Canada Council. This could include activities such as an art fair, a conference or a workshop for which you don’t have other expenses.

Eligible accessibility expenses include sign language interpretation and translation, accessibility audits, audio description, costs associated with relaxed performances, personal support workers, captioning, ramp rental, access coordinators, etc.

  • Enter any expenses incurred to make your project or activities accessible to the public on the Public Accessibility Costs line.
  • Enter expenses related to access requirements for yourself or participants involved in your project or activities on the Applicant Accessibility Costs line.

Ineligible expenses

  • Activities or costs that receive funding from another Canada Council grant
  • Ongoing operational costs
  • Capital construction or renovation costs

    • from destination events confirming your participation, presentation or exhibition
    • from individuals (for example, agreements), as applicable
    • from training institutions, organizations or mentors confirming your attendance at or acceptance into training, a workshop, a residency or a mentorship, as applicable.
  • Quotes, as applicable
    • for travel and registration fees
    • for accessibility support services, such as sign language interpretation
  • Program descriptions and schedules, as applicable
    • for conferences, events, courses, etc.
