DESCRIPTION

The program Presentation of works in public spaces or atypical venues supports artistic projects designed for the sites where they are presented, in situ works and productions designed to be presented at atypical sites for the discipline or the audience.

The CALQ hopes to see art move into natural settings as well as urban centres and rural communities in Québec to build bridges between works and the public in a spirit of accessibility and discovery. The CALQ also hopes the program will help works from across Québec circulate in neighbourhoods and regions not as well served by culture.

The projects must take place in Québec between April 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026, with applications submitted by professional artists working in a discipline supported by the CALQ: circus arts, multidisciplinary arts, digital arts, visual arts, popular song, film and video, dance, literature and storytelling, arts and crafts, music, theatre and architectural research.

A project supported by this program may not be supported by another CALQ program.

The CALQ will prioritize projects that cannot be submitted for regular programs.

When the project involves partners, relevant confirmations must be included in the file.

Presentations must occur between April 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026.

CRITERIA

This program is for professional artists from all disciplines supported by the CALQ and for independent curators recognized in the fields of visual arts, arts and crafts, architectural research and digital arts as well as in film and video art.

Profiles:

Professional artists:

The CALQ considers professional artists those who

  • Declare themselves to be professional artists
  • Produce works or practice an art on their own behalf or offer services for payment, as creators or performers, in disciplines within the CALQ’s jurisdiction
  • Have been recognized by their peers
  • Publicly present or perform works at sites or in a context recognized by their peers

Curators:

To be recognized as an independent curator in the disciplines of visual arts, arts and crafts, architectural research, digital arts, and film and video art, applicants must

  • Have produced independent projects
  • Have at least one public presentation and have published at least one critical text in a professional context
  • Have professional experience in organizing artistic projects
  • Not be employed full time as a curator in an arts organization

Eligible projects:

  • The project must take place between April 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026.
  • The space used for presentation may be outdoors or indoors but may not be a typical presentation site for the discipline involved in the application (e.g., live performance venues for performing arts, churches for music, galleries for visual arts).
  • When the project involves partners, relevant confirmations must be included with the application.
  • It is the applicant’s responsibility to check whether authorizations for access are required for presenting their project and to acquire them if needed.

EXPENSES

Financial aid may include activities to create, rehearse and adapt a production along with communication and management activities to ensure the project’s success.

If the project involves a tour in Québec, expenses for the tour must be included in the application:

  • Travel and accommodations expenses
  • Equipment rental expenses
  • Insurance expenses
  • Agency expenses
  • Promotional and publicity expenses not paid by the venue

Expenses will be eligible as of the project start date.

Land Acknowledgement

ELAN is an official minority language organization within a country that recognizes two languages as official. ELAN is located in Tiohtià:ke, the original name for Montreal in Kanien’kéha, the language of the Mohawk—also known as Mooniyang, which is the Anishinaabeg name given to the city by the Algonquin. While we are based in this city, our projects have also taken place in many regions across Quebec.

We acknowledge the colonial origin of English and French in Canada, and recognize that both languages benefit from official status throughout the land. The province that we know as Quebec is an amalgamation of the traditional territories of the Innu and Inuit nations, Algonquian nations, as well as the Mohawk nations of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. Kanien’kéha and Anishinaabemowin are but two of the original languages of this province; Atikamekw, Cree, Inuktitut, and Innu-aimun are also among the many Indigenous languages spoken across Quebec as majority languages, all well before French and English.

ELAN acknowledges the important work being done by First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples to revive the traditional languages of these territories, and their advocacy for the official status of Indigenous languages.
