Spoken word research residency at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris

Résidence de recherche en arts de la parole à la Cité internationale des arts à Paris (France)

DESCRIPTION

To encourage enduring artistic exchanges between France and Québec creators, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) has formed a three-year partnership with the Cité internationale des arts in Paris to implement a residency program.

The CALQ is offering a three-month residency at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris, for spoken word artists. The goal of this program is to encourage the mobility of Québec creators, to support their research and expand their professional network in a dynamic, stimulating environment.

During this residency, the selected candidates will have the opportunity to fully devote themselves to their artistic practice, while enjoying personalized support and a network of professional contacts. Meetings with actors from the French and international arts scene will be organized to foster discussion, collaboration and sharing know-how.

Whether to take research further or explore new collaborations, this residency enables spoken word artists and curators to open up to a wide range of practices and perspectives.

About the host institution

Founded in 1965, for almost 40 years the Cité internationale des Arts has embodied France’s commitment to international cultural exchanges. Located in the heart of Paris, at two iconic sites, one in the Marais and the other in Montmartre, every month it hosts over 300 artists in residence in all disciplines, in partnership with 135 French and international organizations.

The Cité offers residents a setting conducive to creation and exchange, with well-equipped collective workspaces (printmaking and silk-screening workshops and a ceramics kiln) as well as rehearsal studios. Artists are also invited to take part in exhibitions and concerts on site.

The accommodations, designed to combine personal and artistic life, include fully furnished apartments of around 20 square metres, with a bedroom, kitchenette, bathroom and workspace. These spaces enable creators to live and draw full inspiration from the City of Light, facilitating dialogue between cultures and encounters with the public and professionals.
