Support for Promotion and Dissemination – Section 1A: Annual support for companies

Aide à la promotion et à la diffusion – Volet 1A – Aide annuelle à l’entreprise

DESCRIPTION

The program is designed to foster the development, consolidation and adaptation needs of companies and organizations working in the Quebec film industry, in a context of evolving film supply, promotion and distribution of films.

Among the objectives of the program, the goal is to stimulate programming revenues for Quebec films and films from foreign cinematographies with low distributions and promote the competitiveness of Quebec film distribution and dissemination companies on national markets.

CRITERIA

Eligible companies are distributors, commercial promoters and promotion and distribution organizations.

Companies must:

  • Be focused primarily on feature films and hold a general distributor’s general license in Quebec
  • Have been in business for at least three years or demonstrate relevant professional experience
  • Have gross sales distribution revenues of at least:
    • an average of $100,000 per year over the last three years on feature films, or
    • 50,000 on average per year over the last three years on feature Quebec documentary films
  • Have distributed a minimum of three Quebec feature films in the last three years
  • Have undertook activities of digital discoverability for each Quebec film for which revenues have been realized in the last three years

EXPENSES

Please note that eligible expenses vary depending on company type. For specific details, refer to SODEC documentation.

Promotion costs (including digital discoverability):

  • Conception, production and delivery costs of promotional material
  • Advertising placement costs
  • Honorariums related to the production of promotional strategies
  • Production costs for the strategy of launch in platforms
  • Premiere, launch or special projection costs
  • Costs for promotional tours in regions
  • Promotion costs for collective projects
  • Salaries related to promotion activities
  • External salaries or honorariums related to discoverability
  • Music license fees for musical use of promotional material

Production support:

  • Guaranteed minimum (cash only)

Company’s consolidation fees:

  • Costs of technological upgrades, creation of databases, computerized management systems to track rights or sales

Audience development fees:

  • Expenses for market intelligence activities (study, test, surveys, focus groups, etc.) related to the Quebec film audience
  • Costs related to the development of pedagogical guides

Audience development costs (mediation activities):

  • Projection costs (distribution rights, costs for transport of promotional and projection materials, projectionist fees, pedagogical tools)
  • Artistic or relevant projections guests costs (transportation, accommodation, per diems, honorariums)
  • Projection room location fees

Technical costs 

  • Lab (duplication costs: copies for distribution, DCP, KDM; French dubbing and subtitling, if not covered by production)
  • Expenses for digitization and including Quebec films online
  • Transport of copies

Distribution costs

  • Salaries and honorariums related to the programming of activities of film distribution
  • Projection room location fees
  • Distribution rights

  • Association membership fees
  • Software subscription costs
  • In the case of broadcasting and programming organizations, SODEC cannot take into account expenses already reimbursed by an association to its members
