Temporary Aid for Editorial Support

DESCRIPTION

This temporary program (active until May 14, 2021) seeks to stimulate the publication, impact and promotion of Quebec literary works. It aims to encourage the remuneration of Quebec authors, illustrators and translators in the framework of promotional activities in Quebec, as well as to encourage the development of new forms of promotional activities.

CRITERIA

  • To be eligible for this component, accredited publishers must meet the terms and conditions and the specific conditions of Section 1 of this program
  • Eligible projects include paid publication and promotion projects carried out by authors, illustrators and translators from Quebec
  • Eligible activities include activities related to the publication and promotion of works of Quebec authors, illustrators and translators working in accepted categories (poetry, theatre, comics, novels, short stories, children’s books, social science essays, collections of songs) such as:
    • Support for publication
    • Participation of Quebec authors, illustrators and translators in conferences, trade shows, public meetings, book signings, launches, etc., regardless of the event based in Quebec or the platform for the dissemination of these activities
    • Any other participation of Quebec authors, illustrators and translators in promotional activities in Quebec in connection with a work they have written, illustrated or translated
  • Textbooks, extra-curricular school books, cookbooks and practical guides are ineligible 
  • Activities that have already received assistance from SODEC or another funding agency are not eligible
  • Financial assistance can be up to 100% of eligible expenses, with the exception of advances to authors, for which the rate is limited to 75%, up to a maximum of $75,000

EXPENSES

  • Advances paid to Quebec authors, illustrators and translators as of the date of the signature of the publishing contract
  • Remuneration (lump sums, fees and honoraria) paid to authors, illustrators and translators for their participation in promotional activities in Quebec 
  • Travel, meal and accommodation expenses for authors, illustrators and translators in accordance with the standards in effect from the Government of Quebec
  • The promotional expenses in Section 1 of this program are considered ineligible
