The Arts and Older Adults

For the past ten years I’ve been a teacher in adult education with the English Montreal School Boar (EMSB). As a life-long learner myself, I admire, appreciate, and encourage adults in their middle age and beyond to acquire skills, explore new interests, and/or pursue existing passions. It takes commitment and energy to learn new things and it’s always exciting to teach content but working with adults also allows us to identify and apply the many transferable competencies and strategies adult learners bring with them from their previous lives.

Working with adults 55+ requires a sensibility for participants physical comfort and I like to include a short body break during the workshop, some gentle stretches, and breathing exercises according to the capacities of the group. Of course, as a teacher of storytelling, working with humans 55+ is an incredible gift. I look forward to hearing the stories your community choses to share.
