Production Support – Section 2: Selective Aid for Narrative Digital Short-Form Projects

Aide à la production – Volet 2 : Aide sélective à la production de projets numériques narratifs de format court

DESCRIPTION

This section of the program encourages the production of original and engaging short-form works and short digital narrative projects from diverse genres that have the potential for recognigition both in Quebec and abroad. This section also includes short-format narrative digital projects, i.e. audiovisual works of fiction or documentaries that develop a narrative proposal, linear or non-linear, interactive or immersive, intended for visual technologies (virtual, augmented or mixed reality) and allowing user participation.

CRITERIA

  • Applications must be submitted:
    • Before the first day of filming, in the case of a film or television project
    • Upon completion of the demo or prototype phase of a digital project
  • For short-form fiction projects, SODEC favours works under 15 minutes long
  • The company and the producer must have produced and exhibited at least one audiovisual work deemed relevant to the application in a professional context in Quebec during the previous eight years
  • A single company, including related companies, can apply for one feature-length fiction project per submission deadline, regardless of budget, or two projects if at least one of them is written or co-written by a female screenwriter or director (in the case of film or television) or supported by a female creator (in the case of a digital work)
  • The director (film projects) or creator (digital works) must have completed at least one audiovisual work deemed relevant to the application that has been exhibited in Quebec; however, SODEC does reserve the right to consider other career paths when determining the project’s eligibility
  • Applications must be accompanied by a operating strategy that takes into account the range of tools available, both digital and conventional
  • For productions where the original language is other than French, SODEC can require that the work be offered in French; in this case of exhibition in Quebec, French dubbing must be provided by a company located in Quebec
  • For co-productions with the NFB, in the eventuality that the NFB wishes to acquire distribution rights of the production, the rights transferred to the NFB must be the subject of a separate agreement with SODEC’s approval
  • Specific criteria for projects in postproduction (excluding short-form narrative projects):
    • In addition to the general criteria of this section of the program, applications must be submitted after filming has been completed and before the final cut of the production
