Support for Promotion and Dissemination – Distribution Support – Section 1.2: Project Support for Market Entry

DESCRIPTION

This section of the program is intended for Quebec companies holding distribution rights or the majority of distribution rights in Quebec for a given film. It seeks to encourage initiatives put in place by distributors and producers that aim to promote and accelerate the access to Quebec films for their intended audiences in all regions of the province.

CRITERIA

  • Companies applying to this section of the program for the first time must contact SODEC beforehand to determine their eligibility by indicating:
    • Their distribution activities over the two preceding years
    • The revenues from each film they distributed over the two preceding years
  • SODEC prioritizes films in which it has already invested during production
  • Eligible films include fiction, documentaries and animation, of short-, medium- or feature-length; other non-linear audiovisual works may be considered

EXPENSES

  • Promotion costs for films in the preproduction and production stages
  • Fees related to the development of promotional strategies
  • Costs related to launching the film on all platforms
  • Costs related to online promotion (web communications agencies, external resources specializing in the use of web tools and social media) and promotional materials
  • Costs related to promotional tours in the regions
  • Digitization and upload costs
  • Internal costs related to designing the poster and its variations (up to $2,000) if no external costs are incurred for this budget item
  • Internal costs for press relations (up to $2,500) if no external costs are incurred for this budget item • Administrative costs, up to 10% of the market entry budget and up to $15,000 per film

  • A synopsis of the film
  • Technical sheet
  • A market entry plan, including:
    • A list of theatres and the total number of copies, if applicable
    • A timeline for targeted media and release dates
    • Target audience for each market, and attendance and revenue projections
    • Partnerships
    • The strategy to promote the film in Quebec
    • The steps to be taken for selection in festivals in Quebec, Canada and internationally, if applicable
  • Financial structure and provisional budget
  • A copy of the distribution contract or, for production companies, proof of holding a film’s distribution rights
  • Master file, including:
    • Copies of the governing documents, certificate of constitution, articles of incorporation, declaration of registration, certificate of amendment and partnership or shareholders agreement (if applicable)
    • Shareholders and directors identification form
    • Organizational structures for the applicant company and, if applicable, any affiliated companies, including shareholders
    • Curriculum vitae of the applicant company’s executives
    • Financial statements from applicant company and, if relevant, any affiliated companies
