DESCRIPTION

Events are essential windows for disseminating, promoting and marketing Quebec culture. They ensure the vitality and viability of the industry, as well as the discovery and showcasing of artists and works. Through this program, SODEC supports the diversity of programming of events presented in Quebec and networking between industry players.

Encouraging the development of cultural events, this program takes into account issues related to the fields of activity, size, stage of development, the region and the strategic planning of the events.

The main goals of this program are ensuring the dissemination of a diversity of Quebec cultural works, content and products, distributed throughout the province and on digital platforms. Likewise, to increase revenues from the sale of works, content and cultural products while promoting the economic and cultural benefits of Quebec events.

CRITERIA

  • Applicant organizations must have its head office and principal place of business in Quebec, and demonstrate that the effective control of the business is held by persons having their fiscal residence in Quebec
  • The activities of the organization meet the definition of a cultural event as well as the definition of a festival, competition, market or professional event
  • Have held two consecutive editions of the event in the last five years mainly on the Quebec territory or to the Quebec public
  • Proposes events (for the edition submitted) should lasts a minimum of 3 consecutive days and cannot extend over more than 30 calendar days from its first presentation date *
  • Meet at least one of the following conditions:
    • Festivals and competitions: have carried out at least 15 dissemination activities (a number of artists presented in performances, film screenings, conferences workshops, demonstrations, etc.) at the time of the last edition of the event;
    • Markets: ensure that the edition of the event submitted counts with a majority of professional Quebec exhibitors, artists or works in the main field of the event’s main field and to have presented at least 15 exhibitors or 10 artists in the the last edition of the event;
    • Professional events: have presented a minimum of 8 activities for professionals (networking, training, networking, speed meetings, conferences, workshops, demonstrations, etc.) in the main field of the event and have received a minimum of 20 professionals (excluding those from the applicant company)

* Events that combine several types of activities are not required to meet all of the conditions for each type of event. The minimum conditions for broadcasting activities, exhibitors, artists, works or activities for professionals do not apply to events held in remote areas (Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Bas-Saint-Laurent, Côte-Nord, Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean et Nord du-Québec).

** The minimum conditions for broadcast activity, exhibitors, artists, works or activities for professionals do not apply to events held in the aforementioned remote areas or for First Nations and Inuit events.

EXPENSES

  • Salaries and benefits
  • Professional fees
  • Administration costs (e.g., rent, insurance, licenses, accounting, bank charges, administrative or financial fees, office equipment and supplies, telecommunications)
  • Programming expenses related to the design of the event activities (including entertainment, travel, accommodation of artists and craftspeople)
  • Production expenses that ensure the presentation of the activities programmed as part of and within the framework of the event as well as the management of the site and the installations of the event
  • Marketing and communications costs
  • All other relevant and necessary expenses for the realization of the event

Not eligible:

  • Expenses related to activities already supported under another SODEC program
  • Expenses related to year-round, continuous, seasonal or serial programming or non-event programming
  • Capital projects
  • Costs related to raising working capital, repaying loans or debts, an operating deficit, capital losses and a capital buyback
