Digital arts research residency in Marseille, France

Résidence de recherche en arts numériques à Marseille (France)

DESCRIPTION

To enable encounters between different artistic points of view, promote lasting ties between artists and writers from Québec and France, and contribute to the development of these creators’ artistic efforts, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) entered into an agreement for artist and studio-apartment exchanges between Québec and Marseille in digital arts.

As part of this exchange, a curator or artist in digital arts from Québec can take part in a two-month residency for research and reflection around themes related to digital technology. The residency is taking place in Marseille, France at CHRONIQUES, an umbrella entity for the organizations SECONDE NATURE and ZINC and organizer of the Biennale of Digital Imagination. In turn, an artist or curator from France will be welcomed in Québec City by the organization Recto-Verso.

Information about the host institution

SECONDE NATURE and ZINC, grouped under the name CHRONIQUES, for 20 years have been participating in and fueling professional networks and territorial dynamics. Since their creation, the two structures have dovetailed around each other and focused on involvement in cooperative and collaborative structures.

Since its creation, ZINC has been an active member of the national network Espaces Culture Multimédia and helped create the regional network Espace Régionaux de l’Internet Citoyen. For 10 years, the organization was behind a decentralized program of international cooperation in the Mediterranean and the creation of the SCIC Belle de Mai, which manages the site and the cooperative project of Friche Belle de Mai.

SECONDE NATURE was among the first multimedia arts and sound creation festivals to take shape in France, at the beginning of the 2000s. SECONDE NATURE collaborates with French counterparts, such as Ososphère in Strasbourg and Scopitone in Nantes, and international counterparts such as Elektra in Montréal and Transcultures in Mons. These cooperative and coproduction networks have spread over the years, particularly toward emerging stages of the Mediterranean.
