PHI Montreal public engagement artistic residency

Résidence artistique d’engagement public PHI Montréal

DESCRIPTION

A partnership agreement was entered into between the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) and PHI for the PHI Montreal residency, a program for Québec artists and writers.

This annual residency program offers an artist who is a resident of Montréal and an artist who is a resident of Québec outside Montréal the opportunity to work with the PHI Foundation for Contemporary Art to design and present a public engagement project. The results of this residency can come in various forms, such as concise exhibitions, discussions, performances, or workshops. Focused on public engagement, this program highlights ongoing conversations and collaboration among communities, artists and cultural organisations.

Information about the host institution

PHI is a cultural hub dedicated to supporting contemporary art and artists who explore the issues of our times and facilitates their encounters with the public. Made up of three entities – PHI Studio, the PHI Foundation, and the PHI Centre – PHI is guided by values such as freedom, generosity, discipline, and the importance of community, and encourages innovation and evolution in cultural experiences that disrupt and delight.

To reiterate its commitment to supporting local artistic communities and to help shape the art of tomorrow, PHI offers three artistic residency programs: North, Montreal, and Immersive. While each respond to specific needs, their shared mission is to provide artists with the tools, support, and momentum to enable them to grow their practice and take it to the next level.

The length of the residency is six months, between January and June 2025. The amount of the CALQ grant is $12,000 for each artist selected. For artists from outside Greater Montréal, the CALQ offers accommodations during the residency.

In addition, in cooperation with the CALQ, PHI offers artists in residence:

  • Public exhibition: The final project will be publicly exhibited at PHI.
