The Arts and Older Adults

Richard Badger

Visual Arts

I have been teaching art privately to older adults for the last 3 years. I was apprehensive at first but have come to really appreciate the experiences that mature students bring to the studio setting. They are willing to take risks and don’t take their personal art practices too seriously, which is the key to unlocking creative potential (particularly for beginner or emerging artists). Before they know it, their practices have progressed by leaps and bounds – what a great feeling, for everyone!

Sample workshop:

Inspired by other artists, students explore the world of floral designs using a mixed-media approach (watercolour and pastel) that yields gratifying results while building confidence and foundational skills in both medium. Everyone in bloom!
