The Arts and Older Adults

Kate Price

Visual Arts

Life is a creative process, we are each artists in our exploration, quests and curiosity. Transformation happens through time. This is learning. How do we process and express our experiences? Community is a co-creation where we can gain perspective on ourselves, our uniqueness and our shared humanity. If we are open to it then we can continue to grow. I enjoy being with other older adults who carry stories and layers and baggage to be unpacked, retold, revealed and reimagined. There is always time to learn something new!

Sample workshop:

Visual story telling workshop. We are in a circle. Each member is a teacher, a story keeper and a learner opening to creating something reimagined. Opening with centering, landing, breathing, grounding, guided meditation. Free intuitive, exploration of materials (fabric, glue, scissors, paper, cardboard, magazines, embroidery floss etc) Collage with mixed media. Generous amount of time for each participant to share their experience and interpret their art work and how it relates to what is alive for us in this space and time. Reflections and closing the circle with gratitude.
