Artist and studio-apartment residency exchanges between Québec and Upper Austria

Échanges d’artistes et d’ateliers-résidences Québec et la Haute-Autriche

DESCRIPTION

The residency is designed for an artist to engage in a two-month sojourn in one of the nine studios included in the Atelierhaus Salzamt international artists residency space in the City of Linz , making available a suitable environment and the means to produce and disseminate their works. The program seeks to facilitate exchanges of durable ties between artists from Québec and abroad and promote the work and career development of Québec artists internationally.

The residency will take place in September and October.

Information of the host institution
The capital of Upper Austria, Linz is home to a population of 200,000, making it the third largest Austrian city after Vienna and Graz. In the 1970s, Linz underwent a major cultural and ecological transformation. The city can boast of major cultural institutions such as the Brucknerhaus Concert Hall, the Anton Bruckner University for Music, the international media arts festival Ars Electronica and the University of Art and Design Linz. The Ars Electronica Center, dedicated to display, production and research was inaugurated in 1996 and the Lentos Art Museum dedicated to modern art opened its doors in 2003. The importance the City of Linz accorded to the arts sector certainly contributed to its being named the European cultural capital in 2009.

The residence offered by Upper Austria includes a 51 square metre studio workshop and a small 32 square metre apartment, both located in the Salzamt. The apartment features a room with a double bed, a rudimentary kitchenette and a private bathroom. The common areas feature a large kitchen, dining room and sitting room.
