Artist and studio-apartment residency exchanges between Québec and South Korea

Échanges d’artistes et d’ateliers-résidences entre le Québec et la Corée du Sud

DESCRIPTION

The studio-apartment residency is designed for an artist to engage in a three-month sojourn, making available a suitable environment and the means to produce and disseminate their works. The program seeks to facilitate exchanges of durable ties between artists from Québec and abroad and promote the work and career development of Québec artists internationally.

Grants awarded enable recipients to cover the cost of personal insurance, travel, living expenses and costs related to carry out their projects. An itemized budget is not required for this program.

Information of the host institution
Since it was established in 1969, the MMCA has long served as a national art museum accommodating both the modern and contemporary art of Korea. Through the close coordination and cooperation of its four branches – Gwacheon (1986), Deoksugung (1998), Seoul (2013) and Cheongju (2018, TBD)-MMCA is dedicated to presenting exceptional artworks to the public as a source of positive change and a respite from the hustle of day life. MMCA Gwacheon is devoted to various genres of visual art, including architecture, design and craft, while MMCA Deoksugung showcases modern art from Korea and overseas and MMCA Seoul focuses on introducing global contemporary art. Not only playing the traditional role of an art museum, MMCA implements various roles such as collecting, preserving, researching, exhibiting, providing educational services and hosting of artists in residence.
