Exchanges of writers and comic books artists between Québec and Bavaria

Échanges d’écrivains et de bédéistes entre le Québec et la Bavière

DESCRIPTION

In the context of this exchange, a Québec writer or comic book artist can reside for a two-month sojourn in one of the five studio-apartments at the Oberpfalzer Kunstlerhaus cultural facility in the municipality of Schwandorf-Fronberg and correspondingly a Bavarian writer, a comic book artist or a translator will engage in a creative residency of the same duration in Québec, in collaboration with la Maison de la littérature de Québec and l’Institut Canadien de Québec.

In Bavaria, cartoonists will be encouraged to participate in the Comic Salon Erlangen, the years in which it takes place.

Grants awarded by the Conseil under the Studios and studio-apartments section enable recipients to cover the cost of personal insurance, travel, living expenses and costs related to carry out their projects.

Information of the host institution
The Oberpfälzer Künstlerhaus I and II are cultural facilities of the Schwandorf-Fronberg district devoted to contemporary art. Oberpfälzer Künstlerhaus-I also includes the Kebbel-Villa, and a house, Oberpfälzer Künstlerhaus-II (Künstlerhaus), intended for artistic residencies. The Künstlerhaus artists’ residence, inaugurated in May 2000, is situated nearby the Kebbel-Villa. Artists from around the world (visual artists, authors and composers) are invited to pursue their work and interact in an inspiring and conducive environment. The Künstlerhaus is a member of Res Artis, an international association of artists’ residencies.

The facility houses five spacious rooms with private bathrooms, individual workspaces (two studios for visual artists, a writer’s studio, a studio with a piano for a composer, and a printing studio/workshop) and common areas (kitchen, living room, library, laundry room, community hall, garden and patio), the Künstlerhaus also features a studio adapted for the physically disabled, located on the building’s ground floor.

The residency sojourn at the Künstlerhaus will offer residents the opportunity to engage in a creative retreat while enabling them to make contacts and encounter international artists pursuing other artistic disciplines. Moreover, the writers and comic book artists in residence from Québec will be invited to participate in open studio days, have access to local and regional museums and the Literatur-Archiv Sulzbach Rosenberg / Literaturhaus Oberpfalz literary archive centre, a renowned Bavarian institution in contemporary literature.

PLEASE NOTE THAT STUDIO AND RESIDENCY PROGRAMS DIFFER CONSIDERABLY IN DURATION, DEADLINES AND SEASON IN WHICH THEY OCCUR. WE HIGHLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO USE THIS PLATFORM FOR RESEARCH PURPOSES AND TO REVIEW ALL DETAILS ON THE CALQ WEBSITE.
