Sector Support, Innovation and Development

DESCRIPTION

Sector Support, Innovation and Development is part of the Supporting Artistic Practice program. It funds projects by artists, arts professionals, cultural connectors, groups and  organizations. These projects encourage and support the ongoing growth, strengthening and development of the arts sector.

Organizations that receive core funding are eligible.

CRITERIA

Potential applicants:

  • Artists or arts workers
  • First Nations, Inuit or Métis artist or arts/cultural workers
  • First Nations, Inuit or Métis cultural carriers
  • Artistic groups
  • Arts supporting groups
  • First Nations, Inuit or Métis groups or collectives
  • Artistic organizations
  • Supporting organizations
  • Presenting organizations
  • First Nations, Inuit or Métis not-for-profit organizations
  • Business cultural connectors
  • First Nations, Inuit or Métis for-profit organizations

 

Eligible Activities

  • Advancing or developing resources in the arts sector: adapting or exploring structures or systems, digital platform development, resource sharing and support models
  • Supporting artists: production, representation or management services for Canadian artists, groups or organizations
  • Nurturing learning and continuous improvement: providing opportunities for mentoring or professional development for artists and arts workers, network building and advancing artistic practice
  • Gathering, collaborating and exchanging: sector research, sharing or publishing knowledge, networking and magazines that support artistic or literary practice
  • Sector-building for and by marginalized and sovereignty-seeking arts communities: activities that support and develop marginalized and sovereignty-seeking arts communities
  • Testing solutions: exploring or implementing innovative solutions to complex sectoral issues
  • Organizational improvement, development and/or capacity building (including digital capacity): activities that increase an organization’s stability, sustainability and relevance to its community

EXPENSES

Expenses directly related to your activities. These can include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Honoraria for Elders and Knowledge Keepers including payments or gifts for individuals as a thank you for their time and knowledge. Enter these expenses on the Honoraria for Elders and Knowledge Keepers line.
  • Copyright, reproduction and royalty payments, if your activities include publishing, film projections during events, etc. Enter these expenses on the Copyright, Reproduction and Royalties Payments line.
  • Equipment purchases required to carry out the project. The portion covered by the Canada Council cannot exceed 15% of your requested grant amount. Enter these expenses on the Equipment Purchase Portion Covered by Canada Council line.
  • Project management fees. Enter these expenses on the Production, Technical and Programming Professional Fees line.
  • Other project management expenses. Enter these expenses on the Other Production, Technical and Programming expenses line.
  • Safety-related expenses to make your project safe for participants, such as supplementary insurance riders, safety gear, on-site specialists, etc. Enter these expenses on the Safety-Related costs line.
  • Child or dependent care expenses if they are required to complete your activities (excluding regular, ongoing expenses). Enter these expenses on the Childcare/Dependent Care Costs line.
  • Public accessibility costs can include sign language interpretation and translation, accessibility audits, audio description, costs associated with relaxed performances, personal support workers, captioning, ramp rental, access coordinators, etc. Enter these amounts on the Public Accessibility Costs line.

For applicants currently receiving core funding: Do not include any expenses already covered by your core grant.

DOCUMENTS

  • biographies of consultants, Indigenous Elders, workshop leaders or other key people leading the project
  • information about the partners or other project collaborators, along with letters confirming their engagement with the project, if applicable
  • bibliographies, executive summaries or recommendations from relevant reports (feasibility studies, needs analyses and survey results, etc.), if applicable
  • for projects that involve collaboration with equity- and sovereignty-seeking groups only, maximum of 3 letters of support that demonstrate community collaboration and engagement, and that appropriate cultural protocols are being observed
