DESCRIPTION

With a shared desire to support artistic creation and its dissemination in the community, the Conseil des arts de Montréal (CAM) and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (Conseil), in collaboration with Culture Montréal, have signed an agreement to support projects that formally involve partnership initiatives on the island of Montreal. In particular, this agreement aims to implement the Support for Production, Dissemination, Promotion and Consolidation component.

Projects submitted must focus on eco-responsibility* and involve partnership initiatives. They must meet at least one of the general objectives and one of the specific objectives.

*Eco-responsibility refers to a set of behaviors that are part of a sustainable development perspective. Well-known examples include recycling, composting, using public and active transport, and buying ecological, local and organic products.

General objectives:

  • encourage professional arts organizations to adopt environmentally responsible practices
  • encourage professional arts organizations to engage with their communities to raise awareness of environmental and social issues
  • stimulate artistic and literary creation and contribute to the artistic development, growth and dissemination of artists and writers throughout Île de Montréal
  • encourage structuring professional arts organizations to develop and promote the arts and letters in their territory and abroad

Specific objectives:

  • support environmentally responsible creation, production, promotion and/or dissemination projects
  • support a consolidation project enabling organizational adaptation and transition towards environmentally responsible practices or providing the community with shared tools, resources or knowledge that promote decarbonization in the cultural sector

CRITERIA

To be eligible, the applicant organization must be headquartered on Île de Montréal, and:

  • Not submit more than one application to the same component of a regional program per registration
  • A mission-supported organization may not submit a new application in any program if its fiscal year has been completed for four months and the grant utilization report, including financial statements, has not been received and approved by the Conseil
  • Regardless of the program or component, no application can be submitted if a supported project has been completed for three months and the grant report has not been received and approved. The official project completion date is determined by the applicant at the time the application is submitted. In the event of a change, the Conseil must be notified immediately
  • For all programs combined, an applicant cannot concurrently have more than eight projects under analysis, supported, in progress or completed within the last three months, for which a report has not been submitted and approved
  • Cannot submit a project that has already been analyzed and rejected during the same fiscal year, unless it has been substantially modified

  • Artists’ fees and rights
  • Professional fees for contractors, collaborators, consultants, technicians and any other specialists who may contribute occasional expertise to the project
  • Travel expenses
  • Accommodation (hotel and meals)
  • Expenses related to outreach and dissemination activities, including promotional and advertising costs
  • Equipment rental
  • Equipment transportation costs

Eligible projects:

  • Production project incorporating an eco-design approach (set design, décor, costumes, etc.)
  • Creation or dissemination project involving eco-design support (stage and exhibitions)
  • Eco-responsible awareness-raising and mediation activities in connection with a work presentation
  • Eco-responsible adaptation of an event or venue (e.g., introduction of recycling, purchase of eco-designed and sustainable equipment, rethinking of by-products)
  • Eco-responsible circulation of artworks
  • Project to produce more eco-responsible promotional tools, e.g. digital transformation, elimination of printing, use of recycled paper, etc.
  • Project to develop an eco-responsible plan or policy requiring the commitment of specialized resources
  • Actions to achieve eco-responsible accreditation
  • Project to pool eco-responsible resources

Land Acknowledgement

ELAN is an official minority language organization within a country that recognizes two languages as official. ELAN is located in Tiohtià:ke, the original name for Montreal in Kanien’kéha, the language of the Mohawk—also known as Mooniyang, which is the Anishinaabeg name given to the city by the Algonquin. While we are based in this city, our projects have also taken place in many regions across Quebec.

We acknowledge the colonial origin of English and French in Canada, and recognize that both languages benefit from official status throughout the land. The province that we know as Quebec is an amalgamation of the traditional territories of the Innu and Inuit nations, Algonquian nations, as well as the Mohawk nations of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. Kanien’kéha and Anishinaabemowin are but two of the original languages of this province; Atikamekw, Cree, Inuktitut, and Innu-aimun are also among the many Indigenous languages spoken across Quebec as majority languages, all well before French and English.

ELAN acknowledges the important work being done by First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples to revive the traditional languages of these territories, and their advocacy for the official status of Indigenous languages.
