The Arts and Older Adults

Anna Protsiou

Dance

With years of experience in dance and contortion/flexibility instruction, I have had the privilege of working with adults from various backgrounds and levels of proficiency both on a one-on-one and group setting. My approach is rooted in a deep understanding of their unique needs and abilities. I prioritize creating a supportive and inclusive environment where every participant feels comfortable expressing themselves through dance. I recognize the diversity within the group and tailor my teaching style to accommodate various mobility levels, ensuring that everyone can participate and enjoy the experience. I have witnessed the transformative power of dance in enhancing not only physical fitness but also mental well-being.

Sample workshop:

Embrace the rhythm of life with “Creative Moves,” a dance class specially crafted for older adults seeking a harmonious blend of movement, social interaction, and creativity. This class is designed to celebrate the joy of movement and tap into your creativity through a contemporary dance approach. The session begins with a warm-up geared towards awakening the body gently and continues into engaging in choreographic exercises that not only stimulates the body but also nurture the mind. This class is not just about physical fitness but also about expanding the mind-body connection and abilities; and creating meaningful connections with fellow participants as you share the joy of movement. This class provides a supportive and friendly environment inclusive to all.
