The Arts and Older Adults

Dina Cindric

Music & Sound

By incorporating movement, listening, mindfulness, and community building exercises in my vocal and song workshops, I strive to create safe spaces where all older adults are welcome and feel welcomed to be and share their creative, expressive selves. I believe that neither age, background nor ability should act as a barrier to participating in and enjoying making music together. I have worked with older adults as a vocal workshop leader at the Centre des Musiciens du Monde, with BRAMS (International Laboratory for Brain, Music and Sound) and with the RECAA Choir whose members belong to the community organization of the same name and whose aim is to cultivate a culture of respect for the elderly.

Sample workshop:

1. Movement & Sounding Workshop
Participants are guided through simple movement and sounding games. Inspires embodied and creative musical creations in a fun, accessible, and inclusive environment; promotes mindfulness and connection amongst participants.

2. Song Sharing Workshop
A series of workshops in which participants are asked to share a song that is meaningful to them. Participants share why they chose the song and with the facilitator’s assistance, work together to bring the songs to life. This workshop inspires collaborative and meaningful group singing using story-sharing and song. It fosters open communication and a respect for diversity.
