The Arts and Older Adults

Kate Lavut

Literary

I specialize in autobiographical comic-making. So working with older adults is always a treat, as so many stories have the opportunity to come to life! I have taught older adults in workshops geared specifically for them, and others that were mixed and grandparents brought their grandchildren.

Sample workshop:

This comic-making workshop is set up for people with little to no experience in drawing and writing. The exercises are fun and stimulating with a no-pressure approach that draws out creativity step by step. The end result is a mini-comic, that participants can have photocopied and given out to loved ones.

Materials:

Paper, regular printing paper 8.5 x 11, and tabloid size (11×17) if possible. Pens, pencils, markers, colored pencils and scissors.
