The Arts and Older Adults

We all have stories to tell. Sometimes we just need an incentive to share them. My passion is to bring people together through stories. I started writing and sharing my stories twenty years ago. After a traumatic accident, I couldn’t write and I couldn’t share. I got through that painful period one word at a time. Now, I encourage others to share their stories. A former adult education teacher, I’ve been giving workshops for ten years. Since 2020, my focus has been on workshops for people over 55.

Sample workshop:

Workshop 1: Writing and Sharing Stories About Food. What’s your favourite food? What did you like to eat as a child? Remember the ingredients? What did it taste and smell like? Through a series of prompts, we will write about our memories of specific food.

Workshop 2: Writing Stories, One Word at a Time. You have a story to tell, but you don’t think you can write it or share it. In this workshop, we will use a number of exercises to help you get started. We will write our stories, one word at a time.
